Thought I share my timeline (still going through the process) to give other people an idea of how long the process takes (differs for each person):

25 May 2021 - PEBLO reached out (identified as having a condition as outlined in AFI 48-123) / Returned intake sheet same day
26 May 2021 - PCM started NARSUM (whenever completed will be routed to PEBLO)
1 June 2021 - Met with CC to discuss CIS
4 June 2021 - CC completed CIS / Routed to PEBLO
15 June 2021 - AFPC instructed a full MEB
16 June 2021 - Sent back DES Acknowledgement Sheet back to PEBLO (Chose IDES over LDES)
21 June 2021 - Had mandatory briefing with PEBLO in regards to the IDES
6 July 2021 - MSC reached out from the VA
13 July 2021 - Had mandatory initial briefing with MSC / Walkthrough filling my claims (total of 9)
15 July 2021 - First QTC appointment
5 August 2021 - Last QTC appointment (total of 5 / Initially was 3 appointments but QTC requested 2 additional appointments)
18 August 2021 - MSC reached out stating that the exam reports were released and reviewed / Case forwarded to the rating department / PEBLO notified
24 August 2021 - Mandatory briefing with PEBLO to go over final case file / Reviewed, signed, and sent back to PEBLO
25 August 2021 - MyPers sent notification stating PEBLO has sent MEB package to AFPC Physical Disability Operations Branch

MEB - Currently pending results
IPEB - TBD
Ratings - TBD
Retirement Date - TBD

I will post updates as I get new information, PEBLO has stated that the MEB portion can take as little as 2 weeks all the way to a month. Process has been very stressful but I had the support of my leadership and squadron which got me this far. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I can try to answer them.

Your case is moving quickly!! Any updates?
Yes I do have some major updates!!

9 September 2021 - PEBLO reaches out in regards to having my MEB results: 10% from DoD / 50% from VA. DoD disposition - medical separation w/ severance pay, still be receiving VA disability along with benefits from the VA side (healthcare priority 1, base access, VA card). It does suck that I'll technically won't be a retiree but oh well.
10 September 2021 - Reached out to the Office of Disability Counsel (ODC) for clarification and guidance, recommended that I take the rating and appeal once I get out since my condition is worsening (injury that DoD is going off of caps at 20%). Hopefully I can get my other 3 conditions' ratings from the VA bumped up after I appeal since I feel like I've been given the bare minimum.
14 September 2021 - Sent back AF Form 1180, Pre-Sep worksheet, and ODC sheet back to PEBLO

Currently waiting on them to cut my orders and to begin the transition phase (15 days plus 20 days of permissive tdy plus whatever days I take leave, planning on selling my leave days since I have a job lined up for me once I separate).

I'm shocked at how quickly my MEB process has went, guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

Can you explain the benefits you get from the VA since you won’t be a retiree. I think you’re able to fight it. Also if you don’t have a lot of claims it will go fast.

Just curious... Did you agree with your unfitting rating? If not, why did you not request a VARR?

So according to the VA eligibility Matrix (see link below), with my 50% rating the benefits I qualify for are:

- No cost health care and prescription medications (priority 1 group)
- Travel allowance for scheduled appointments for care at a VA medical facility or VA authorized health care facility
- Waiver of VA funding fee for home loan
- 10 point Veteran preference in federal hiring
- Direct hire authority
- Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment
- Additional compensation for eligible dependents (may include aid and attendance for eligible spouses)
- Burial and plot allowance
- Use of commissaries, exchanges, and morale, welfare and recreation (MWR) retail facilities, in-person and online

These are included on top of my monthly disability pay. The only difference I see between the VA and DoD retirement is VA healthcare vs TRICARE. I think I will be able to fight it as well especially since my conditions are worsening (every year). With the VA, I have 3 conditions they accepted which coincide with one another.

If I were to be honest, I do not agree with my rating at all, I feel like they're giving me the bare minimum. But since I have a job lined up for me once I separate, I figured it would be easier to appeal with the VA after I separate in regards to fighting with the DoD. As for not requesting a VARR, it was a matter of the extra time I thought it would take in compared to what they'll give me. I feel like my rating would be bumped up significantly once I appeal and see an actual VA doctor.

I do have some major updates (again):

17 September 2021 - Notified that my medical discharge orders are ready (DOS is 29 October 2021)

Immediately started my out-process stuff (both the squadron checklist and the FSS checklist). Even though the DoD has given me a little under 2 weeks to out-process before my permissive and terminal starts, I'm glad this MEB process has come to a close.

Did you do 20 years or more?

Typically Commanders give 20 days of permissive leave for people that serve 20 years or more. That's good your commander authorized those days for you.
