Hey, did you get assigned code 37 immediately after you were told you’d be medboarded or did it take some time?

My provider told me that I was going up for a med board and I received an email notification from one of the PEBLOs regarding the code 37 within a week or two.

Don't you love it?
Air Force: "the PEBLO is your go-to during this process and is there to help".
PEBLO: literally doesn't tell you anything unless you pry it out of them.
Last update I got at JBLM was the PEBLO telling me the IPEB has 35 calendar days to generate ratings. On day 45 I had to pry out the fact that the VA hasn't even looked at my medical stuff

Is anyone waiting on VA ratings presumed to be found unfit?

I am having the same concern. However, from what I have been able to decipher from the VERA helpline, the AFI governing the DES process, and the ODC, the procedures indicate that the mere fact that the PEB sent your case file to the VA shows that it is highly likely your case has a presumed "UNFIT". Of course, I'm sure few exceptions still occur.

The VA stated that they have too much cases already for the DOD to just dick-around and send potentially "FIT" cases to them. Waste of time for the DOD, the VA, and the service member according to the conversation.

AFI 36-3212 Ch. 3.19. Documenting Findings and Recommendations.
The PEB documents their findings and recommendations on AF Form 356. The PEB details the recommended unfitting conditions on the form and if an IDES case, forwards it to the Department of Veterans Affairs Rating Activity Site for determination of disability codes and ratings.
(This seems to indirectly hint that if the initial presumed decision of being "FIT", they would halt or reject the case for a lack of evidence or whatever)

Alas, the IPEB can technically determine a rating of FIT if something radically changed during the timeline of waiting on the VA. So its not completely concrete but overall it is high indication of being found "UNFIT" by the IPEB if you are waiting for VA ratings.

But that's just my interpretation of the info available. Not an expert by any means.

That makes sense, thanks!!

You should have a fit or unfit decision from IPEB prior to the file being sent to VA/DRAS. If you were found fit, you would’ve been returned to duty already. If your waiting on VA ratings, you’re unfit. Also, statically across all branches, about 5% of people sent to the HQ (AFPC equivalent) are found fit.

And that's where the frustration comes from. We should have been notified of the IPEB decision prior to this limbo of the VA ratings. But we were not.
At least for me, any attempt to decipher what decisions have and haven't been made at the MEB/IPEB phase are met with the same answer,

PEBLO: "We won't know until the VA give AFPC the ratings back"
AFPC: "We will not announce final decisions until your case is completed by the VA"

Meanwhile, I feel like, "NO!, There is a process spelled in black and white! You are just refusing to remain transparent due to sheer workload. Understandable, but why wouldn't the service member be notified of each step with clear explanations!? Why make service members decipher your processes and then act offended that we request assistance from the parties in charge of of handling the MEB/PEB systems? Its broken. Its broken on purpose. No other way to explain it.

But that's just a quick rant on how I personally feel. Just frustrated as each MEB/PEB experience seems to totally rely on the quality of the PEBLO/connections you have at AFPC.

I’m guessing your PEBLO isn’t very communicative or easy going. They know if you were found unfit. Did they ever give you the IDES timeline paper?

on 21 July, the last thing I did with my PEBLO was signing the 618 MEB package (that had everyone's else signature and information required EXCEPT the MEB decision of FIT, UNFIT, Refer to IPEB)

It has been radio silence since unless I initiate the conversation. Its whack
