Overall experience was satisfactory. Near the end, I did not want to prolong the process for a FPEB to receive medical retirement, since my health insurance is covered (hypocritical, but I would recommend fighting for the 30%). Getting hope from this forum, reviewing the VA app for the closed claim, and checking in with PEBLO and PEB at least monthly made such positive impacts on my process. Best advice I can give is to give complete effort with the parts of the process that are in YOUR hands: document your condition(s) well, have records on hand for reference, review the third-party evaluators, bring up errors right away, have a solid paper trail of all communications, don't miss appointments of course, and make full use of your resources! By resources, I mean requesting: missing referred conditions to be added before the MEB is completed, a formal PEB, a VARR, a lawyer (civilian or military), communicating with your chain of command, your PCM, your PEBLO, and MSC. Near the beginning of my case, I was contacted by a VR&E representative and that is a whole different beast, but going back to school was something that kept my mind off of the case while making progress in the civilian life I was planning. It was really disheartening to read posts about others unable to take job offers because of the uncertainty of this process. I was super lucky to have amazing support along the way, but that is not always the case. This is your life, your care. All personnel may care to some degree, but I sincerely doubt they care as much as you do. ASK THE QUESTIONS. UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE SIGNING. DOUBLE AND TRIPLE AND QUADRUPLE CHECK. DO YOUR DUE DILIGENCE. Best wishes to all!

Just because I'm slightly confused and wanted to make sure that I'm understanding correctly.

Were you rated 100% on the VA side but didn't get the 30% on the DoD side to get medically retired?

That is correct. My referred condition only rated 10%. I did request more to be added, but the independent reviewer saw no medical evidence of the conditions. Between the transfer of records to Genesis and civilian records not making it into my military file, the only option I had was to request a FPEB. Which I do not want. Silly, I know. I knew my referred condition would be less than 30% because there is no actual ICD code, and the reviewers choose a condition to which it may be relevant. (I've seen posts on here speaking of those issues and how different reviewers will choose different codes for the same diagnosis.)

How long after accepting your findings did you receive your separation orders?

Might be too early to be having concerns for this but I have JUST been refeered for MEB.

I’ve been thrown out 20 different timelines and it’s making it impossible to plan for the future.
I have not met with MSC yet but based on what I have heard I am under the impression the timeline is closer to the 6-8 month window vs the 12-18 months that it used to be.

What is the more realistic timeline to plan for in your experience?

Every case is different, and my experience was 8 months. Not knowing what you're claiming and whether all of your records will be easy to evaluate, I'd tell you to prepare for 9 months. If there is any part of your future that can get started from now in spite of any timeline, go for it.

*It seems everybody got the gist, but 16NOV24 should have been 16JAN24.

Update: My last day in the service was 24MAY24. My VA claim showed up in the app on 17JUN24 in the "evidence gathering, review, and decision" phase.

Hey, thanks for the response!
Currently on MEB for Menieres Disease and all other claims I would imagine will be simple and straight forward because I am a Corpsman and have been very diligent in keeping all of my issues documented for this exact purpose.

Glad to hear you're on top of things! To clarify: I cannot know how complex the VA/PEB will find your conditions to evaluate. Hopefully, by now, you've met with the PEBLO and MSC to get some more information.

Have you gotten your final VA rating letter yet? I retired May 28th and am still waiting. You need that letter for many things once you get out, depending on state benefits.
