Can I be Denied the Chance to MedBoard If Facing Admin Sep (Non-Punitive)?

Hi there!

I'm an active-duty Air Force officer facing administrative separation due to the revocation of my security clearance (due to foreign relations, not misconduct). However, right before I received verbal notice of this administrative separation, my doctor recommended that I be referred to the Medical Board because she did not believe I was fit for duty (PTSD). From what I researched, I could face a dual separation process.

I'm being seen at a Naval hospital, and since I'm not Navy, my doctor had to partner with an Air Force counterpart from another base for the med board process. So far, my Naval doctor has completed a NARSUM with me and forwarded it to her AF counterpart. It's been about two weeks, and I still have not heard back from the AF Base or a PEBLO. I've been transparent with my leadership, and they are aware that I'm facing a med board.

- My worry/question is that they will not process me for a medboard if AF Base/hospital is tracking that I'm getting admin separated.

Let me know your thoughts/advices.
Thank you

I'd talk to legal about this. I've had a NARSUM written and forwarded as well (this was front loaded as I am overseas), I'm in the beginning stages of a MEB. Three questions my PCM asked while filling out the NARSUM is date entered active service, MOS, and if I had any administrative actions against me.

I think there is a chance it can be affected, otherwise the question would not be asked. However, as the admin action not due to misconduct, i'd see if legal can figure out a way to ensure the medboard process takes priority over administrative separation.

I can only speak on the Army, but you cannot be facing any adverse actions to proceed with your MEB. This is literally one of the criteria they ask and confirm prior to initiating a MEB. If you are currently in the process of being administratively separated, then I would find it unlikely you can be MEB.

At least on the Army side, I have never heard of anyone getting a dual seperation. Again, this is just my personal experience and I am in a different branch so take it with a grain of salt.

Your best course of action may be to communicate with your CoC to see if they've already put in your pack to seperate you... if so, expect an uphill battle. If not, maybe try to get them to postpone it until your MEB starts.

Best of luck! Very unique situation.

The time line is very lengthy. The lack of a call means zip.

You can go thru the MEB process if you have an AA flag. How I know this, because it happened to me. I just finished my C&P exams, still flagged and waiting for the NARSUM
