That whole "diagnosed after service" is definitely misinterpreted by the Air Force. It does not say "after separation from service", after service can mean a lot of things. I have been told it means after serving in theater/exposed to hazards. How does it make sense that asthma only counts...
If you're still active, your PEBLO/Unit will reach out to you and let you know. They're a bit secretive for ratings until everyone knows what's going on.
I spoke with my MSC who informed me that the claim is in deferred status until the IPEB makes a decision. Once I am found unfit the IPEB will request the findings from the VA and apply it to my conditions. PEBLO said it should be by the end of the week but I am not holding my breath.
My VA claim is completed, before it was sent to the IPEB. I was never found fit. Ratings are done and sent to AFPC per the DRAS but I am waiting on the PEB's determination.
Yes, reach out to the VA rep and see what's going on. You aren't for sure getting out of the military until you are found unfit by the PEB, and they make a final decision after you accept the board's findings. You don't officially start out-processing until you get orders. I started the IDES...
I can say this isn't the case, I was told by my MSC that ratings are done but I am not allowed to see them until after the IPEB is completed. My package is at the local MEB. Just a coincidence in this case.
23 June 23 - New CIS sent to PEBLO - Do Not Retain
23 June 23 - Notified VA claim proposed ratings sent to PEB
Well at least my rating will be available as soon as I am declared unfit. Waiting to sign the new 618 so it can be sent back to AFPC.
12 June 23 - AFPC returned without action - requested specialty notes and new Commander's Impact Statement
Waiting for an updated NARSUM from my PCM for the base to review it again and then for it to be sent back to AFPC.
This is a brutal process.
Update:
17 May 23 - DBQs all uploaded to TOL
19 May 23 - local MEB started
26 May 23 - Signed 618/concurred with MEB - PEBLO sent it to AFPC
Hoping this is over by September.
