Thanks, it irks me that DFAS does thing so convoluted and not easy for SM to get accurate information regarding pay.
IMO its not worth trying to do paperwork to just drill for points in lieu of pay. It can create more issues later on, like if you go deploy, etc. Its basically a interest free...
BLUF: This a long post and DFAS uses DoD 7000.14-R Financial Management Regulation Volume 7B, Chapter 3 "Gross Pay Computation" to calculate your retired pay, disability pay, what CRSC pay is calculated from, and COLA increases.
Over the holiday break, DFAS sent me a CRSC Statement that showed...
if you hit print screen to download it as a pdf. you can scroll to 2nd page in the message section. It should tell you something of what this is. Were you retired recently?
Message section if retired recently should have something like:
"
OLD AMOUNTS REPRESENT RETIRED PAY DUE FROM DATE OF...
Since you submitted right before the Aug 20th change, was your effective date backdated to your retired date? Im just curious if they adhered to what was put out.
I mean blessing in disguise? That's a nice chunk of change difference. I never really saw the points they used for me. I just looked at my pts sheet before i stopped going to drill, and figured they get close. They calculated it to be less for me by 0.06% from what i was expecting, but a...
BLUF: yes, if VA exceeds Ch 61, you get only VA. Your best CoA at this point is to apply for CRSC and hope you get approved at a % that will pay above your non-regular retirement estimate of $1965 using the VA pay chart of just you and your spouse. Reason I state this is because eventually your...
The DRL means Disability Retirement List, with T as temp and P as permanent. Once you are on the TDRL or PDRL, you are no longer a reservist but a medically retired veteran. To get designated as TDRL or PDRL, you would have to sign the PEB decision form and get retirement orders cut which states...
Getting anything above 30% means ch 61 medical retirement, so you will be rated at 50% on TDRL (Temporary Disability Retirement List) meaning you will need to get re-evaluated at some point in the future. After that re-evaluation for PTSD and they find you are stable, they will either keep you...
I'm pretty sure its the annual RAS that shows the new COLA increase. I got a new one dated 12/7/25 showing the old and new COLA Gross Pay, VA Waiver, Net Pay etc. If you scroll down to the "Messages" Section under the General Tab or the 2nd page if printed. It will say "YOUR NEW PAY INCLUDES A...
When you first got retired, DFAS sent out a letter stating "welcome to the retired roll of the US Army." It had a page called "SUMMARY OF RETIRED PAY ACCOUNT" where it calculated Method A or Method B for your retired pay. Method A was the ch 61 DoD % payment, and Method B was your longevity...
Need to figure out a few things.
1. High 3: going off 1751 / 30% = 5836.66
2. DoD 30% = 1751 ; if 50% = 5836.66 x 50% = 2,918.33
2a. DoD Residual = 0 since VA payment of 3010.96 ( spouse + 5 kids) is higher.
3. AD time longevity multiplier = 10 yrs 1mo 4 days = roughly 25.2% multiplier...
If im reading it right, you are currently receiving CH61 disability pay minus VA offset pay, but have a 20 NG/reserve retirement letter. If you are not age 60 and collecting CMRP (concurrent military retirement pay), then yes you are leaving some money on the table by not applying for CRSC...
Actually, i misread it. You will get some retroactive pay for the months of Oct 2011 to April 2013, either 18 months or 17 months depending if its half months in there or not.
Id say somewhere between $3k to $4k depending on the rate during those years.
Looks like you are maxed out on your CRSC payment due to your length of service, rank and points.
40% VA payout for Veteran, spouse and 2 children under 18 is $964.16 and if you're only getting $234, you have maxed out your longevity pay. Increase in CRSC % will not increase this payout...
