    Possible admin discharge for mental

from what i know, if you have a medical condition that affects the way you do your job, they are supposed to send you through the medical board process, not just kick you out with an admin discharge.Even if they say something was pre existing, like ADHD, it can still qualify if your service made...

VA, DOJ work together to improve care for vulnerable veterans

The VA and DOJ have teamed up to help Veterans who can’t make their own medical decisions and don’t have family or legal help, including some who are homeless or at risk of it. Now, VA attorneys can step in as legal representatives to make sure these Veterans get help. This can assist with things...

VA releases 2025 National Veteran Suicide Prevention Annual Report

The VA’s 2025 report shows that younger Veterans are at higher risk of suicide, and many who died were not receiving VA care. This highlights how important it is for Veterans to reach out and get connected to support. https://news.va.gov/145433/2025-national-veteran-suicide-prevention-report/

FYI: The VA has updated how disability ratings consider medication and treatment, so ratings now reflect real-life daily functioning. From the official Federal Register: This interim final rule is effective February 17, 2026, and the VA is accepting public comments through April 20, 2026...

VA Can Add or Change Presumptive Conditions Without Warning

Hey veterans, here’s a heads-up about VA presumptive lists for 2026. From what I’ve learned, the VA doesn’t publish a calendar or give advance notice about which conditions they’re reviewing. Updates can show up suddenly once rulemaking or medical reviews are finished. That means the lists can...

Will PEB case backlog affect receiving medical retirement orders?

Yeah, I heard the same thing. Cases that were submitted before or during the shutdown are being worked on now that the PEB system is back online. They’re not being ignored, but because the system was down, everything got delayed, and now those cases are just waiting in line like everyone else...

Study Connects Agent Orange Exposure to Earlier and More Severe Cases of Myelodysplastic Syndrome/MDS

I wanted to share something that might help with AO claims. There’s a type of blood cancer called myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), and this is the first study to clearly connect the 2. The study found that Vietnam War veterans exposed to AO have a higher risk of developing MDS, a rare blood and...

WARNING! This is going to anger most if not ALL of you! re: retro pay

It’s all just bureaucratic nonsense......DoD wants a clear cutoff for claims going forward so they don’t have to pay out huge sums all at once. They’re punishing veterans for things completely out of their control. That’s why some veterans’ groups are taking legal action, and I hope they’re...

Prostate Cancer Screening: New Options for Veterans’ Health

Hey everyone, here’s something interesting for the men in our Veteran community. The VA is testing a new way to screen for prostate cancer. Instead of using the same test for everyone, this new approach looks at a Veteran’s genes and family history to figure out their real risk. They’re looking...

    Fed Shutdown

As of today, the gov. is still in shut down. The Senate passed a bill yesterday that would reopen the government, but the House of Representatives still needs to vote on it. They’re expected to do that on November 12.If the House approves the bill, it will then go to President Trump to sign...

    Fed Shutdown

I just found out that during the shutdown, VSOs aren’t allowed to do in-person work at VA regional offices. So veterans can’t get face-to-face help right now. Honestly, that doesn’t seem right. Has anyone else run into this?

Paying out of pocket for civilian medical records??

There isn’t a rule written somewhere that says the AF will pay for your records. Here’s how it usually works. If the MEB or your military doctors ask for your civilian records, then they’re supposed to handle it and cover the cost. But if you go get the records yourself, the doctor’s office...

Paying out of pocket for civilian medical records??

The base hospital is usually supposed to get any civilian medical records needed for your MEB. You shouldn’t have to pay for them yourself. If a record is important for your evaluation, the military should request it directly from the doctor, usually with a form you sign giving permission.

Can you help me figure out this "fit" verse "not fit" disability separation issue?

You can be considered fit for duty and still get VA or DoD disability benefits. Being able to do your military job doesn’t stop you from getting compensation for a service related injury or sickness. From the VA side, they see if your condition is connected to your service and makes daily life...

    Not seeing Claims on VA.gov

From what I know, if you’re still on active duty and going through the MEB/PEB or IDES process, your claim will not show up on VA.gov until you officially leave the service. Once you separate, the VA usually updates the claim in the system, and then you can see it online.

    Combat PTSD?

Based on what you've described, you should be able to pursue a medical retirement due to a mental health condition. PTSD alone can qualify you for a 100% VA rating if the symptoms severely interfere with your ability to function in daily life or maintain employment. I think it is 100% if total...
