I’m currently in IDES/MEB and trying to understand how additional conditions are considered for the DoD rating, not just the VA rating.
My understanding is that the VA rates all service-connected conditions, but the DoD rating only applies to conditions found unfitting for continued service.
My question is about conditions that are connected to the original MEB condition but may not have been listed as unfitting at the start.
For example:
Can those additional conditions be added as unfitting conditions during the process?

My question is about conditions that are connected to the original MEB condition but may not have been listed as unfitting at the start.
For example:
- If I’m being med boarded for a back/nerve injury
- But I also have hip issues, radiculopathy/nerve symptoms, chronic pain, or other related limitations
- And those issues also impact my ability to do my job or meet retention standards
Can those additional conditions be added as unfitting conditions during the process?
Specific questions:
- Who decides whether another condition becomes “unfitting” — the MEB provider, PEBLO, PEB, or someone else?
- Can I request that related conditions be considered unfitting?
- What evidence helped others get additional conditions recognized as unfitting?
- Does job impact matter more than diagnosis alone?
- Has anyone successfully had secondary/related conditions added before findings came back?
- Is this something to address before the NARSUM, after the NARSUM, or during appeal/rebuttal?
