Admin separation or retirement decision

I just finished my PEB last week and the Air Force has decided 60% PDRL (VA 100%). I also had a admin discharge in the process for PT failures so I was wondering how long does it take AFPC to decided which one to go with. From my understanding since my admin discharge had to do with PT failures and my illnesses caused me not pass the fitness test that the AFPC will go with retirement. So would that make it quicker to get a decision.

My guess is that you will retire instead of admin sep for PT failures. Did admin sep arise after MEB was initiated? Were you on profile because of injury when you had PT failures?

Yes I was on profile the whole time and the admin separation was after MEB already started. I asked this question on the forum a few days ago and what I gathered is AFPC should choose retirement but I wasn't sure how long it takes for a decision.

I don't understand how, if you had a medical condition preventing you from even taking PT test, they had any standing to admin sep you. It's my understanding that PT failure and subsequent admin sep for it has to be a well documented, prolonged case against you...

Like your unit has to provide evidence that corrective action and counseling were provided to you in order to help you pass with subsequent failures. Besides, I think this is all moot bc of your injury...

I have heard the admin sep authority twice on this forum and I have never heard of that all my first shirt said is the admin package was sent to AFPC waiting for my MEB to finish then AFPC would decide which one to go with.

My unit made up LOC's. they basically said they talked to me but I didn't sign them. So I told the ADC that if they gave me an LOC why didn't I sign it and they said they couldn't put those in the admin sep package. The only other thing they had is my old PCM said I can pass the PT test but my off base doc kept telling her it wasn't possible. So when it came time for my new PCM to fill out the admin sep paperwork she put on it that it wasn't possible for me to pass the PT test.

Ok. IDES proceedings takes precedent...especially in your case of PT failures. I don't think you have anything to worry about. Your unit is overstepping it's authority. Sounds like they didn't like the idea of you getting med boarded. But they should have fabricated something a little better than "PT failures". You'll be retired.

I mean, you have the Medical Evaluation Board, Physical Evaluation Board, the the Department of Veterans Affairs (three separate authorities) essentially saying that you are unable to be in the military because of your injuries...let alone take a PT test.

Would happen to know how long it would take for AFPC to make that decision. I have been in this process since May 2012 I just want to get this done and move on.

Do you have an appointment with a Retirement Services Officer yet? That should take place soon after you sign off on your 199.

No everything is on hold until AFPC decides which package to go with. I just signed my PEB findings last week

What does your PEBLO say? It shouldn't take too long because, legally, you have just 90's days to retire and separate after conclusion of IDES.

He tells me that once AFPC decides then I will have 90 days to get out because I picked the longest possible because I thought it would have 90 days from when I signed the findings but I guess it's not. So I asked me how long until AFPC decides he says he doesn't know. He also keeps telling me to worry about AFPC deciding admin discharge because he says you never know what AFPC will do. So that is why I'm freaking out about getting screwed after all this time.

Also, I would ask your PEBLO who is putting this all on hold. Retirement takes precedent in a case like this (unless I'm missing something), and shouldn't be held up. I would ask your PEBLO to produce documentation of the 'order' or whatever has been given to suspend or put on hold your retirement. I'm sorry....I know you are just wanting an estimated timeline but I don't know what to tell you other than the 90 days I mentioned and that I don't think your case should be being held up at all. I think the first thing you must find out is: who is holding your shit up and by what authority they are doing so.

My PEBLO is sometimes useless or he is the type of person who just waits until he finds something out. I'm just going to call the MEB lawyers for the Air Force to see what they have to say. Thanks for the help

In other words, if your PEBLO is saying AFPC is putting your retirement on hold, then tell your PEBLO to provide documentation of the hold up and by what regulation and authority the AFPC is doing so. Force their hand. Because Col. joe blow just can't call up your PEBLO and say, don't do anything until I tell you to.

Oh, yes, you definitely want legal involved. That's a given.

***UPDATE***

I just found out today that the Secretary of the Air Force has decided to grant me retirement. I'm glad this is finally towards the end. For anyone interested in a timeline my stuff was sent to AFPC on Jan 28th 2013 and on Mar 5th 2013 the paper was signed. I wasn't notified until today (12Mar13)
