Hi all, first time posting but here goes. I just recently before thanksgiving had to go to the hospital for Immune thrombocytopenia aka low platelets. Was told I had to go up for MEB last week! Waiting on my PCM report and Commander letter. Wondering if anybody know my chances of retention. I am at 18 years and want to finish my 20!

Thrombocytopenia has multiple causes. I think retention depends on the underlying cause.

The hematologist has no clue what brought it on.
I would ask your MTF to hold off on med board since you don't have a diagnosis. If your commander is in your corner I might have him or her write a Memorandum stating that you are currently seeking a diagnosis and to allow you to get the appropriate medical care in the short term. Then the goal would be to find out what's wrong and if it can be treated. With that information you can figure out the best strategy to try to get to 20 years. I would be very proactive with your health especially if you are at the 18 year mark. People have been medically discharged with severance instead of getting a military retirement at 19 years.

I’m still on meds to raise my platelets and I have a blood test today to see where my platelets are at now. But the specialist said with ITP there’s isn’t always something to point to as the trigger. It could be a one time thing or chronic. But hopefully after this test shows improvement I’ll be on better grounds to be retained or not even send my stuff to AFPC.

update off meds now, off bade doc said he doesn’t see any reason I cannot continue to serve. Waiting on my Narsum from the doctor now.
Congrats! Does that mean you are in IDES since you mentioned NARSUM?

Not yet I haven’t had to make a decisions as of yet (Air Force). Just spoke to my pcm last week said she will finish my Narsum this week and then the peblo puts it together to send to AFPC. Then I see if the think I’m fit or unfit.
