Camp Lejeune timeline

Follow up on my last: I elected a HHG move for mid July. DD-214 will be ready for draft review on the 9th & ready on the 11th.

DMO is good at what they do and had me in and out within 20 minutes.

I signed mine off but didn't retain, IPAC didn't list that on the items needed for my package. I got my DMO endorsement that said I had an RE-3P and an honorable discharge.

SEPS let me know that all I need is the SBP MOL class cert, the SBP elections, DD-2648 (proof you did TRS/Capstone), STR form (DD-2963), PEB findings, and your checkout sheet.
They told me they need a copy of the pg 11 to generate my dd214

I'm dealing with new river and they gave me a different one which required a pg 11

I'll try to get a copy of my page 11 and re-enlistment code paperwork in case that happens. I'm still waiting on CO's signature on those papers.

Detachment date set for 20240711 with 20 days of outbound PTAD. Will stay on base until DMO move is complete, set for the 15th to the 19th. DMO endorsement specified an honorable discharge with a re-enlistment code of RE-3P. (3 days)
20240711 DD-214 (16 days)
20240730 Retired (19 days)

Total time since IDES referral was 244 days to get to the point my DD-214 has a set publication date. Since everything from here is just executing the plan stated above I likely won't post any more updates unless I have a hiccup that I can give y'all a heads up about to avoid in your respective timelines. I want to thank everyone that took the time to post their timelines, answer questions, ask questions, and generally speaking discuss this process with myself and everyone else going through this shit show. I'm still keeping email alerts on, so feel free to ask questions here either directly to me or just to the collective of Marines/Sailors who stop by here.

I'm sure a lot of you got plenty of shit for dealing with this process, but understand you will get yours. Keep your nose clean and a level temper, most if not all of you are at the very tail end of it all.

If I remember to, I'll also post when I receive my first VA payment.

First hiccup: pertains to the small sliver of you married Corporals and below or if you are a Corporal and below with children/dependents and you are medically retiring

You will be made to make an election for the SBP or survivor benefit plan. It is a confusing 6 page election package that is effectively life insurance for a surviving spouse or dependent. I will give you my example.

I'm a Lance getting PDRL at 40%, the program offers 55% of retirement pay paid out to the elected beneficiary. In this case, if I paid for the program at 6.5% of retirement pay for 30 years my wife would get 55% of 40% of LCpl base pay. That fucking sucks. Doesn't change much as a Corporal, E-5s and above might be worth it. It was obviously designed for 20 year retirees.

In order to opt out of this program you have to go in with your wife, husband, or whoever you elect as your beneficiary and notarize an agreement of election to opt out of the program. You can do this at NavyFederal or another notary.

I had all this cleared up by a financial advisor on base, if this applies to you and you have questions on it please let me know. I'm headed to a notary to finalize my opt out tomorrow.

I find that a significant portion of Soldiers would still be better off with a term insurance policy. My wife's SBP would have been $400 a month. Instead she opted for a 30 year fixed term policy for 2.5 million that only costs her $145 a month. She did select the low cost SPB which is up to the threshold amount. The rate is much lower but its an extra cushion at an affordable price. Something like $30 a month for $1,000 coverage which actually means $550 a month if she were to die. instead of 6.5% the rate charged is 2.5% which is reasonable. That way there would be a little more help on top of Social Security if she were to die first after the 30 year life insurance term expires.

I was also told to check out VGLI but 20 something year old me is scratching my head at life insurance elections. Seems like yall figured out a good thing.

VGLI is great if you can't get affordable private insurance. The only downside is the cost isn't fixed. The older you get the higher the premiums.

Is this based out of Lejeune or Cherry Point?

Second hiccup: S-1 won't sign off on your checkout sheet until the day of detachment. IPAC Seps needs at a minimum 2 days for them to review your 214, but you can come in much earlier. I was given the green light by them to come review it today, but they didn't know who I was so I'm a little skeptical it's ready for draft review. Will report back with how that goes once I get cleared to go to seps.

That is weird my s-1 just signed off on my checkout sheet today

Doesn't surprise me, but the early review date did surprise me.

I reviewed everything and seemed pretty legit. In the comments it did say I can be recalled but if memory serves that's mandatory for any retirement.

Quick questions I got told my findings should be back this week from Jeff but also heard that they only come out on Fridays and with the 96 going on should I still expect them this week?

It's up to the IDES office when they'll formally call you, but you'll likely come in next week. My findings were turned into their office on the 12th, a Wednesday, and I was called to sign on Thursday.

Sounds good thank you!

Pretty dumb question, but does anyone think IPAC will care if I'm shaved when I come in civvies to pick up my DD214? I'll have been on PTAD for 20 days "in conjunction" w my terminal. Trying to get a headstart on my beard lol.
