Can my NARSUM doctor add a P3?

I am being referred for a left foot injury. I just received a call from the provider writing my NARSUM. He said after going through my record he believes I have a second unfitting condition (Major Depressive Disorder) and let me know he was going to "add it in."

Can someone explain what this means? From my understanding, it sounds like he is adding another P3. So an additional condition that will contribute to my DOD rating. Is that right?

They are going to issue you a P3 profile for mental health. It will become a 2nd referred condition. The NARSUM will reflect that both conditions are unfitting while all the others are fitting.

Also, very common. That's a good thing! That means they are actually reading everything and trying to be fair and objective with their medical opinions. The more referred conditions the better chance of getting a higher DOD%

Okay, thanks for the confirmation!

My VA examiner did wrong by me, and did not document my symptoms correctly. Leading to a 10% VA rating based on boxes checked. I.e "Mild and transient symptoms..."

Will the DOD be required to accept VA ratings or can they make their own judgements based on medical record?

They use the VA % by law if found unfit. So expect it to be 10% for the iPEB. However, you can request a VARR and that makes the VA reconsider the rating with a higher level review. So start working on that since you know you will need to request that once you get the iPEB results. You can point out the missed symptoms and state where it is in your medical records. Also, you can have a Psychologist or Psychiatrist fill out a DBQ that properly documents your symptoms. The scary part is your C&P examiner because everything depends on how good they are at recording your symptoms from your medical records/your own words into that DBQ. That's why there is a VARR to ensure you can appeal the rating.

Okay, that all makes sense. Thanks a ton, my wife and I are trying to plan out the future for our family, and it's really helpful to understand the process better.
