Hey everyone,
Looking for some insight from people who’ve been through the MEB process. My First Shirt is telling me my commander will most likely recommend “retain” because technically I can still perform my job. However, I’ve been dealing with this condition for about 2 years now, and it’s not improving. For context, I suffered two TBIs while in service, and since then I’ve developed chronic migraines that significantly impact my day-to-day life. While I may still be showing up to work, my concern is honestly more about my long-term health and functioning outside the military, not just getting through the workday.
A few questions:
Thank you!

A few questions:
- How much does AFPC actually weigh the commander’s impact statement?
- Do my comments on the AF Form 1185 make a real difference in the outcome?
- Has anyone here had a commander recommend “retain” but still ended up going through a full MEB / medical retirement?
Thank you!
