Fibromyalgia Diagnosis

Hello All,

Seeking advice. I claimed Fibro but was denied, I guess, as I received no rating from the VA when I retired as it says "No Diagnosis." I have looked at the symptoms as well as what I feel and I think I may have it. Would it hurt to get a diagnosis from a civilian doctor and then submit that as evidence or would the VA prefer one of their MD/contractors to make the diagnosis?

Thank you in advance.

If can not hurt to get that done and to use that encounter as a basis for an appeal, if the VA decision is less than one year old. An appeal vice a new applications preserves the date of the original claim.

Thank you. I submitted a claim via eBenefits on 30 November for Fibro and eBenefits updated today, 9 December, stating a decision has been made - I am assuming a denial due to the short timeframe. The only evidence I submitted was basically "See Medical Records." Despite this, I submitted a claim for Asthma on the same day and I already have an exam scheduled with LHI, a VA contractor, for an exam. I believe all of this stuff is associated with the burn pits I was exposed to on three deployments. I am going to go ahead and utilize a civilian route for the Fibro in the event the decision is a denial.

Thank you again.

I would remind you that asthma from burn pit exposure is now presumptive, which means CRSC approval.

Yes. OSA and Asthma are separately rated. OSA is usually tied to the soft pallet of the mouth. Asthma is an issue with the lungs. Separate issues therefore not double dipping.

In my case I was referred from the military to a civilian rheumatologist who diagnosed me. I had a C&P exam but he wasn’t actually qualified to diagnosis it, just like sleep apnea, so he just marked that I have it from the other doctors notes. It’s been over 4 months and I haven’t got VA results. If you want an update reply and I’ll let you know how it goes…

For fibromyalgia diagnosis, it must be confirmed by a rheumatologist. I don’t know if you already saw a rheumatologist for it. Please forgive me if you did. The VA, based on what I’m educated, requires a rheumatology diagnosis/confirmation, even if your primary doctor already believed you have fibromyalgia
