I know the title sounds similar to some recent posts. I did not see my question answered. When it comes to requesting a FPEB what are the downsides other than extending your timeline? If IPEB offers you 30, 40, or even 50% what are the risks to requesting an FPEB to add unfitting conditions? Is there the possibility that the FPEB considers your originally unfitting condition at once again 30, 40, or 50% to be no longer unfitting? Would one somehow risking an IPEB 50% DOD rating for the potential to reach a higher combined DOD rating be risky other than obviously the extended timeline? Thank you all for what you do to keep everyone informed. I'm very grateful.

With a FPEB everything is on the table. That sounds very risky but unless your results were sketchy to begin with you don't have anything to worry about. I remember an example where a Soldier requested a FPEB to increase rating of 0% mental health unfitting. You can't increase a rating for an unfit finding condition by doing a FPEB. You can only get it raised by a VARR. When the Soldier did this the FPEB reversed the condition from unfit to fit as 0% mental health has no limitations or issues with serving which was the opposite result of the ipeb.
So technically everything is on the table but for every FPEB I have come across on this board all of the changes have been to the conditions challenged with few exceptions. So they typically only rule on the condition or combat related nature that you are challenging. I will also give you a good result where the FPEB made changes to an item not requested. My wife argued that one of her unfitting conditions was combat related and the FPEB did not rule in her favor on that condition but did change a different condition to combat related which achieved the same result of getting her pension exempt from federal income taxes. So they they helped her out but made the change on a different condition to achieve her goal!
