How long between approving ratings and starting terminal leave?

Hey, everyone, was just wondering how long it took for your PEBLO to reach back out to you after signing saying you accept your ratings and when you started terminal leave. I was told it shouldn’t take too long, but I’m still trying to prepare for my future. What’s your timelines look like? Thanks!

It depends how much you saved up and, if I’m not mistaken, whether you are medically separated or medically retired. I was told that since I was medically retired I would be entitled to 20 days of job hunting/house hunting leave, so I got a free 20 days. Basically, they count back from your new separation/retirement date (let’s say, for example, yours is May 31st, you have 20 days of job hunting/house hunting leave and 10 days of regular leave saved up, so your last day would be May 1st).

I am unsure of whether you are entitled to house hunting/job hunting leave if you are medically separated.

In terms of myself, I got my ratings at the end of February and signed them March 8th. My last day per my retirement message is May 30th, I didn’t have a lot of leave saved up, for various reasons, so my last day will be May 9th, which includes my leave saved up plus my 20 days of house hunting/job hunting leave.

I’m being medically retired. And that’s what I’m wondering, how long did it take for you to get your retirement message so that you could begin your terminal leave, permissive TDY, etc. I signed for my ratings, but haven’t heard back from my PEBLO yet. I signed for my ratings on 31 March. My question is, how long did it take for you between signing for your ratings and starting your terminal?

Like I mentioned, starting your terminal leave is dependent on how much leave you have saved up. It will be different for each person. Once you get your retirement message, you will have to count back from the date you see on your retirement orders. It can take a few weeks to get your retirement message but again, that has no effect on when you can actually begin terminal leave. You can begin terminal leave according to how much leave you have saved up. If you signed your findings only a week ago, I’d expect it to take anywhere from a week to 3 weeks to get your retirement message. Personally I got mine exactly 2 weeks after I signed my findings.

Theoretically if you have endless leave saved up, like 60 or 90 days, then you should be able to start it right away, but that is also dependent on your command. Mine made me do endless paperwork such as a separation physical, and other items not usually required for a medical retirement. I was not stationed at an MTF so perhaps my command was unaware of the requirements for a medical retirement. Hopefully you are higher up on the food chain than I was (I was an E-1.)

Thanks! This helps, I have 38 days of leave and 13 days of PTDY, so 51 days total. I really hope they don’t make me do any of that crap, I’m an E-6, and I’ve already been on telework duty since January, so probably not. I’m hoping to hear back about my retirement message really soon. I’m just trying to get a general idea of when I’m finally out and signing my DD-214. This can’t be over fast enough.
