Humira

I'll just wait until I get my ratings and then go from there.

Yup just keep going to the doc for whatever's bothering you it takes a long time to figure everything out with medical stuff, I'm still learning about my conditions and I'm waiting on orders

Im pretty sure it's 60% for the use of a biologic.. I had done a lot of research regarding this before needing surgery for my Crohn's disease.
I am being boarded right now for Crohn's which also caused a fistula. I have been on Humira for 8 months. I am waiting on the VA decision right now. Could you tell me your experience with how the VA rates Crohns, Humira etc? I was found unfit because my job required me to deploy and now I cant because of Humira and the risk associated with it.

It sounds like it covers the bases.

Go to the Board for Veterans Appeals website. There you can search and review cases similar to yours to get a bead on how the VA should rate the condition.

jlburns: The VA rates Crohn's the same as Ulcerative colitis. Being on Humira unfortunately doesn't give you any additional rating bumps for Crohn's. I believe Humira can only impact your rating if it is used for psoriasis or some skin condition that requires immune suppressants.

I just stumbled upon this thread. I am also taking Humira due to Psoriatic Arthritis and Psoriasis. If I may ask, what were your ratings for DOD/VA for these claims? I have been accepted to the MEB and waiting for a PEBLO now. I started getting Psoriasis on a deployment to Syria roughly 8 months ago and the arthritis portion began in July. Currently, I have been placed on medical leave due to my lack of mobility. Everything has progressed so quickly and I am definitely stressing this process and making VA claims.

I get 60% DOD/VA for psoriasis. It's based on how long you take Humira (biologic) OR the degree of your illness (ie psoriasis how much surface do the plaques cover). 60% is max for biologic use for psoriasis - requires 12 month of continuous use.

Okay thank you for the information! I am being referred for MEB/PEB for the use of Humira, prescribed due to my level of Psoriatic Arthritis and some of the Psoriasis locations, but I do have Plaque Psoriasis as a diagnosis from the Dermatologist. It isn't a lot of surface area. I was prescribed the Humira injections September 1st and began treatment same day, however I will be taking it "for the rest of my life" or if I may need to step up to infusion treatments for the Arthritis. Based on the length of my Humira use, would I then qualify for the 30% rating? I take Injections every other week.

You should. After 12 months of use, you can ask for an increase in your VA rating. The DOD side of things is different...they will probably rate you at 30% permanent depending on how long the IDES process takes. Let's say it takes a year to reach the PEB, then you have a case for 60%. Again this is use based on Humira use.

Thanks for the quick replies. I have been trying to find answers online and you've finally been able to provide them for me. Thank you again!

The best advice if you are going for the Humira-use rating: make sure that the examiner that you see for the C and P exam checks off the appropriate boxes. A lot of times they will just make a footnote or mark the wrong thing. It has to be biologics. And they have to mark the duration. This will save you some hardship. There are posts in this forum talking about what happens if the examiner doesn't mark it correctly.
