IDES with previous VA rating

OK, I'm an Air Force reservist looking at a possible MEB for discharge because I can't run or walk for the PFT. I understand it now goes through the IDES system. However, I already have my VA rating of 60% disabled from when I got off active duty 6 years ago and transitioned to the reserves. I had 7 years active duty at the time. So, I have a ton of questions but these are the main ones:

1. If I go through a MEB, will the VA re-do my rating? Can this MEB affect my VA pay that I am already getting?

2. Will I have to go through all the VA exams again?

I am concerned because when I got my rating the first time, I was seeing a lot of doctors, compiled a lot of records and evidence for the 60% rating. Now, 6 years later, I still have all the same problems but we moved and instead of finding new doctors, I have just tried to deal with it myself. So if they re-evaluated me now, I wouldn't have a lot of evidence per se, even though my health is still pretty much a disaster, if that makes sense.

I'm trying to decide if I should just cut my losses and separate or if I should go through the MEB process. My main fear is if I go through the MEB process, I could lose the VA disability I already have.

I really appreciate the help of all you smart folks out there who understand this so much better than I do.

Thank you so much!!

The answer to each of your questions is...yes potentially. Have you not had any C&P exams since initial VA rating of six years ago?

What condition(s) give you the 60%? What is this new condition that you may be boarded for?

Thanks for the reply! No, I haven't had any C&P exams since the initial VA rating 6 years ago (in 2007). Here is what I was given previously:

1. 30% functional bowel disorder
2. 10% acetabular dysplasia and osteoarthritis, right hip
3. 10% acetabular dysplasia and osteoarthritis, left hip
4. 10% bilateral pes caus and metatarsaglia, plantar fasciitis and
5. 10% sesamoiditis, right foot
6. 10% allergic conjunctivitis, bilateral

I have been on a profile of can't run/walk for foot pain for many years now (since 2005, so since before I got this rating) so I guess that is what I would be boarded for. A combination of numbers 4 and 5 above I guess. I am very unclear however in the new process if they look at all your issues or just the specific one that is the main thing preventing me from running. Basically, they said if I can't do the run/walk test, they want to MEB me. This all really confuses me so thanks so much for any advice you might have.

They are supposed to look at all conditions.

What's your job in reserves? So, sounds like your 4 and 5 listed conditions are probably the cause of foot pain?

I'm a finance officer (sit at a desk). But their issue is I can't do the PT test.
Yes, I think so. Although it seems they lumped a bunch of conditions into #4 and also gave me a real low ball percentage considering i can't walk at all without severe pain.

Yes, yes, I understand the PT test issue. lol. However, the PEB is going to look more at whether you can perform your job/deploy than the PT test.

I would start seeking treatment for your conditions. For one, this will help get to the bottom of exactly what is going on with your pain. Second, it will begin compiling evidence for a possible med board.

Hmm. I can do my job but I don't think I can deploy because I've been on various profiles pretty much continuously since 2005. The constant profiles is another reason they want to med board me. You are so right a out seeking treatment. It just seems like one more thing to add to my already too long to do list. Also I've been there done that with doctors and their helpfulness is limited. Do you know if you have to have current doctors treatment for them to take you seriously?

In my opinion, if you don't have any current medical treatment records your opportunities to potentially retain any previously issued DoVA rating(s) is less likely for a favorable determination.

Best Wishes!

Well...if you have a condition, you have a condition; regardless of when treatment was last provided. But as Warrior pointed out, more current and up to date records can only help.

Bottom line, I don't see ''foot pain" as getting you medical retirement. Probably more like severance. If I were you, I'd be getting to sick call (or whatever Reserves call it) as much as you could. Get to the bottom of what is wrong with you...then you will be able to do much more research on it and what is required for a 30% or higher rating.

Have you deployed OEF or OIF?
