As seen above, I received my severance pay FAST. Much faster than I was anticipating. However, by my calculations, I was taxed 36% on my severance pay... which seems oddly high as I was told my MEB legal it would be around 25% or so. I am going to attempt to apply for the tax refund and see how much of it I can get back. Wish me luck, y'all!
 
I'm really not sure? It all just moved so fast. If I remember correctly, I received my orders via email from my retirement services office, along with my DD-214 signing date.

Since you opted to receive severance pay, your VA payments will not begin until all of that pay is recouped first.

I've heard it both ways, so I suppose we'll see in a few days! Close friend of mine started receiving his VA payments right on schedule, even with severance pay, so that may not be entirely correct.
 
Simply put, you do not get payment from DOD and VA for same condition.

If you receive severance for 10% condition DOD, VA awards you a percentage as well. Whatever that percentage is with the VA, is factored into the total rating granting you the 100%. That equates to a $ amount. This amount will be withheld in its entirety until the severance is paid back. If you received zero rating with VA, no severance paid back.

How long did your Va stay in the rating phase before receiving pay? I am supposed to receive a severance pay as well but I had negative leave days so I’m not sure if that’s what’s taking a li bit but I ETS’d sept 30

Only update here is that DFAS accepted my ticket to have my tax refund submitted back to me. Still waiting on that to come into the bank, and for my Federal student loans to be discharged. Have a great Monday, all!

Woke up to a beautiful surprise from USAA - my tax refund was deposited into my account. All-in-all, pretty easy and smooth process. Just under a month from filing to receiving. I think the last thing I need before I can retire from these postings, is my Federal loans to be discharged. MTF.

Now just waiting on Nelnet to zero out my loan balance. Hoping that will only take a couple of weeks. Once that happens, I think I will be rounds complete on this journey.
