Just got coded, 18.5 years TIS, do I need to worry about an MEB?

Curious here…
I’ve been in the AF for 18.5 years, SNCO, and a few weeks back had an MRI on my neck and I have 4 bulging discs and a pinched C6 nerve root which is causing numbness/tingling in my left arm. Last year I tore my MCL but only got a PT profile to not run for my PT test.
This neck issue got me DAV coded, first time in my career this has happened. Since I’m coded I went to mental health and got diagnosed with anxiety. Thought process was screw it, kill two birds with one stone so I’m not coded back to back, just get everything taken care of at once. My code got updated and I’m coded until July now. That’s my 19 year mark.

If I’m showing progress through therapy for my neck, or even if I have a fusion surgery, should I be worried about an MEB at all?

If you get to 19 year mark I wouldn't be too worried. However, I would put my retirement packet in as soon as allowed. An approved retirement may help you dissuade them from pursuing anything.

Just keep in mind when you put in for your retirement you still have to clear medical. If you are not meeting retention standards they may still put you through the MEB process.

Agreed but by then you don't have to worry about not hitting your 20 years:) Worst case scenario is you stay in a bit longer...

I still need to extend my contract. My current one runs out at 19.5 years. I’m not on indefinite yet, I had re-enlisted right before that started. From what I was told just a DAV code doesnt stop me from re-enlisting or extending and right now that’s all I have on me.
