Adding some updated information.
May 28 - I am officially referred to MEB by a Navy Captain.
June 8 - Legal Briefing conducted over the phone.
June 30 - Initial Meeting with my PEBLO.
In this gap I completed a personal impact statement, went to a couple medical appointments to clarify the extent and impact of my CECS. Also got a ROM evaluation done. I had my providers rewrite my medical information in the format requested by the board as well as waited for my NARSUM to bounce around for a few different signatures. My referring provider was on emergency leave during this time so there was a bit of doing nothing but waiting during these 2 weeks.
July 12th - NMA with my CO is signed and given to PEBLO.
July 14th - NARSUM signed by the last (I think 3rd) doctor.
July 15 - Case submitted to board for an IPEB.
I am in LDES so I didn't work with the VA at all. I just need DOD ratings and a fitness determination. I chose LDES because I am comfortable financially and have a wife in the military. I will retain Tricare through my spouse and have easy access to the VA after separation. I have a very good job offer, (more of a partnership) making significantly more than the military could ever pay me. The sooner I start that work, the better off I will be. I have also been in the Marine Corps for just over a year with "minimal" damage so LDES made more sense to me. In my opinion, however, IDES is almost always the better choice and if you can be patient, it is likely worth it. LDES isn't moving quickly either so if you're on the fence, what's a few extra months in the long term? Good luck.
