I am facing an MEB due to severe asthma and wanted to post for tracking purposes and if anyone had any advice/input.

AUG 2023: Fails PT test and claims medical du to chest feeling weird and not being able to breathe
SEP 2023: ER diagnoses me with just heart palpations
SEP 2023: Sent to Cardiology due to being diagnosed with heart palpitations and to see if anything is abnormal and tests come back normal
SEP 2023: PCM claims I was just nervous and its nothing too serious and tells me to limit caffeine and pre-workout intake just to be safe
NOV 2023: Spoke to another PCM that was filling in for mine and discussed concerns about my breathing that I have been telling my PCM for months
NOV 2023: Finally gets referred to Pulmonology
DEC 2023: Diagnosed with mild to moderate persistent asthma
JAN 2024: Informed I will be facing an MEB and put on AAC 37/DAV 42
FEB 2024: asthma worsening and put on more medication and referred to allergy/immunology
MAR 2024: saw allergy/immunology and was told I am a good candidate for allergy shots but asthma needs to be controlled for 3 months
APR-JUN 2024: Continuing to see pulmonology and continuing medication but no big improvements
JUL 2024: PCM calls and states she will finally write her NARSUM and stated she was waiting for me to be better controlled before writing it
SEP 2024: PCM finally writes NARSUM, PEBLO reaches out, and CIS is submitted back to PEBLO with PCM and CC saying "retain"
OCT 2024: Sees pulmonology and is diagnosed with severe persistent asthma and put on even more medication and referred to biologic therapy. Allergy will await results from biologic therapy
OCT 2024: I contacted my PEBLO and she submitted my CIS to AFPC on OCT 03 to make sure current documentation was in the system.

Now I am just waiting to here back from AFPC with a decision, but I am not sure what the outcome will be for me. I have heard such mixed reviews. I also do not know if this process should have taken so long given how it almost took my PCM a year to even start the narrative.
 
I created an account just to reply to you lol. Our cases are very similar. My referred condition is HS (autoimmune skin condition) and my PCM and CC both recommended retain. HOWEVER, I am also on biologic injections. Which is why I think my case even went past an IRILO in the first place. My case was submitted to the IPEB for rating OCT 16th, and it began April 30th. I also do not know exactly what the outcome will be, and it is nerve wracking to think about. However based on all the research I have done, it seems that when biologics are involved people get found unfit. Out of about 27 cases, only one was allegedly RTD and I believe it is because they fought for it. Not sure if any of this helps, but just wanted to let you know you are not alone. :)
 
Moonie & anxious, I am soon to be going through the same process. Diagnosed with moderate persistent asthma. I was told back in February that I would be referred to the MEB for my asthma but still havent yet. But my PCM told me that I just need to do another PFT since I am now considered stable and then the code 37 will be applied. So hopefully soon.
I am on a biologic monthly injection, daily inhaler, and singulair. Ive also had prednisone corticosteroid pills prescribed 5x within the past 12 months. Based on the steroid prescriptions, that should be 60% alone. But we shall see.

I will be following this thread and waiting for your updates since I am in the same branch. I want to be found unfit but scared that I'll be RTD (if I even get officially medboarded)

Thanks for replying. I know the PCM and CC said retain just bc they are just focused on numbers not really listening to you as a person going through health stuff. But that is super helpful info, I’ll post more updates on anything else that happens and you should do the same ◡̈

I basically take all the same meds, two more steroid inhalers, allergy meds and some which are steroid meds as well for my severe rhinitis. I hope the biological are helpful for me when I start. My PEBLO said AFPC is backlogged by like 2-3 weeks, so it is taking longer to hear a decision back than usual, but I hope to get an answer soon. Please update as well!!
 
I was RTD for my asthma back in July. Currently taking Advair, Spiriva, Albuterol, and Monteluskat. NARSUM, CIS, and an accompanying MH NARSUM all said do not retain but AFPC went the other direction.
 
I got retained lol and put on a limitation C code. But I have to go through another IRILO in May.

you got returned to duty while being on a biologic? Air Force? Or have you not started the biologic treatment yet?

I haven't started yet and yes Air Force. I know they could see that I would be starting on biologics soon so I think that's why I was put on a limitation code for now and will have to go through another IRILO or possible MEB in a couple months.
 
had me nervous for a bit. i never seen anyone found fit while on biologics for asthma. i am in the very beginning stages of the process and didn't want to be surprised with a "return to duty".
hopefully in may you'll be ready to be found unfit (if thats what you want)
 
Just an update: I went to the severe asthma clinic and I will be starting the dupixent biologics this month. I was told to be aware of the potential MEB and limitation codes, but since I will be getting this care at a navy clinic and it’s not AF, they of course wouldn’t tell me exactly if I was getting MEB’d. Also had to add some meds to my allergy regimen.
