My Timeline Overview

Yea I just called for an update and they said there are now about 4000 cases that were lost in time due to the covid issue. So they’re stopping at mid April/ end of April 2021 cases till they fix the bulk of the older 4000 cases. They are also trying to hire more people for the ratings since they are down. So this 150 day average went right out the window and here comes my third extension……

Are you referring to 4000 cases that were lost at the PEB or with the VA?

If PEB, who did you receive the update from? I have a hard time believing they have 4k lost cases and not 1 person on this forum is one of those cases...everyone on here seems to be April and after with Medical Officer.

I don’t know where they were lost at but I’m assuming the VA since they said they are looking to hire a lot more people to do ratings for them. But that’s how it was explained to me

Gotcha...I was told that if the PEB adjudicates a case as unfit and the VA rating is not back yet, then the VA will make it a priority to get that person's rating completed. That came from my VA rep. I completed my VA appointments in mid-April and am yet to receive a proposed rating. It's mind blowing how long the process is taking.

Yea the VA is done with my things on their side. I had my appointments in February and March. About the first of September I was told the VA had completed their ratings for me and now just to wait for unfit/fit

Yall sound confused. The PEB is lacking people. The PEB has had issues tracking cases and handling all their work because of man power changes. Now yes the VA takes long but the VA doesnt pertain to the PEB stage, the only instance it does is for the rating for your referred condition and thats pretty straight forward. Now it doesnt make sense to move onto the peb phase without being finished with the meb phase and you essentially need your ratings from the VA before moving to the PEB so they can refer to your rated conditions rating. Its a lot of small work and a lot of things tying together but the facts remain. We can do nothing but wait and assure our own case is done in a timely manner, that its completed properly, and hope the PEB gets proper manpower to handle their workload.

*Update*

I called the PEBLO yesterday afternoon, to follow-up on my case - Bless that man. My case has moved passed the "Tie-Breaking" officer and is now in the VA Disability office (My proposed VA ratings were established in February). In which I asked him if that implies whether I am fit or unfit? He told me that it went past the line officer and to the Disability Office that means you are unfit and I will get the official results this coming Tuesday.

Finally! I’m happy for you.

It was very emotional. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's progress. I'll keep posting updates for everyone, as soon as I get them.
Please do! I think one of the biggest unknow for a lot of people is once found unfit the process and timelines for getting out. If you could share that would help a lot of people in regards to planning.

P.S. Glad you got your board out of the way! I hope your findings are are what you were expecting!

Agreed! I received a call this morning from the LIMDU Coordinator at base medical today saying the information is starting to trickle in - whatever that means, he didn't say. I know he doesn't receive anything like what the PEBLOs or Paralegals get and was insinuating that he knew more than what the PEBLOs were telling me. I don't think he was expecting me to be as proactive as I have been. It was rather confusing because he didn't tell me anything new or helpful.. just that information was trickling in. Suppose it was just his check in the box.

You can move onto the PEB phase without a VA rating. Only thing you need from the VA is the DBQs. The ratings do not factor into the decision of fit or unfit by the PEB. Once the PEB makes a decision on fit/unfit, they then request the individual ratings for the conditions one is found unfit for.

I am at 81 days with the medical officer at the PEB and still do not have a proposed VA rating...

That sucksss. I feel like allowing it to move forward only fucks up the process, excuse my french, and it would only leave space for errors that significantly delay your process. I dont see why it would be allowed this way if once it gets to they peb, the essentially need your rating to rate you on the dod side.

I was told by the VA rep that when the PEB adjudicates the case and requests the VA rating, if the VA has not finished their process, then the case will be given priority by the VA and returned in a fairly quickly time period to allow the PEB process to finish up. For reference, I completed my QTC appointments mid-April. I am baffled at how long the VA is taking and am glad it is not holding up the PEB process.

In a perfect world, there would not be backlog of months, but by allowing the VA rating process and PEB process to overlap, it ideally cuts overall wait time.

Why would the PEB request information on a fit case when the VA Disability at that point while declared fit doesn’t matter? I was told it comes back pretty quick if that’s the case and the process stops unless you want an appeal.

I never said the PEB requests the VA rating for fit cases. I said they "request the individual ratings for the conditions one is found unfit for."

Spoke with the PEBLO, yesterday. Findings were supposed to be in last week, the PEB had forgotten to send the findings. Was told I should have findings either today, Thursday or Friday.

I will post as a soon as I can with any helpful information on timelines.

I hope that everyone has a great rest of the week.

I dont mean to laugh in a mean way, but how tf does the PEB just forget to send your package? Can you imagine doing your job and just getting away with missing something big and just being like "sorry man i forgot, ill get it to you next week"
