Hi all. Thanks for any information. I’m real confused if crsc is worth applying for or if there’s any unintentional consequences I should be weighing.

I am being medically retired from Army after ides process. DOD rating is 80% for two unfitting conditions. VA rating is 100%. I will be TDRL.

Estimate for retired pay is 6,280$. VA pay would be approx 4400 (wife, 2 kids).

Assume 11 years TiS. Opted in to BRS. I am confident that both conditions would be combat-related, but unsure of crsc amount. DA 199 says both conditions are combat related.

Can anyone tell me if it’s still worthwhile to apply for crsc? An estimated calculation would be great if possible. Or if there is any danger to applying for crsc I should be aware of. Thanks so much in advance.

Apply: I thought it wouldn't be worth it for myself because I thought my residual was too high. That was NOT correct, and even though it wasn't much, it was what I deserved above the rest I was getting. As for unintentional consequences: there are none, it does NOT reopen your VA claims if that is what you're thinking. What is your retired pay grade and how long did you hold it and I can give you a rough guestimate. Remember: this is YOUR money, not Uncle Sam's!

Thank you! O-3, 7 years.

Thank you! O-3, 7 years.
Guestimate using the current O-3 over 6 amount which is $7,737 x 2.0% x 7 = $996.52. I am not sure where you're getting $6,280 from for your Ch 61 estimate, if I use the current O-3 numbers as before, I'm getting 7,737 x .75 = $5,802.75. To get a closer amount figuring in COLA/2-year step increases, I multiply by .92 which has been shown to get pretty close without having to dig up a calculator site, which brings it to $5,338.53 giving you a $938.53 residual. It "might" negate your CRSC leaving you with not much, but I'm not DFAS so the numbers could swing more in your favor, therefore, take my guestimates with a grain of salt ;)
