Possibility of TAD Orders - Awaiting Findings

Does anyone know the instruction (if there is one) for requesting no cost TAD orders while awaiting PEB/IDES findings? I'm currently on my 19th month at my command, my package was just submitted to board OCT 18.
In addition to that, has anyone here gone through that process and been successful? If so, I could use your guidance. I’m looking to transition back to my home of record rather than waiting out the process at my current duty station. My command is extremely toxic and I'm ready to get out of the environment and transition in a healthier space back home.

Thank you in advance!

Same thing happened to me, once they put me limdu they kept me at a squadron for 4 months, until my flight doc made them send me to TPU until i coukd get sent to Limdu command

When you see Veteran Service officer through VA to do VA claims. Make sure you compain aboit every pain, migraine, moan, groan, incident, the more claims the better percent

I've been on a no-cost TAD helping with recruiting in my hometown for the past four months. I started a few weeks after sending my package to the PEB. As long as your command, doctor, and PEBLO are cool with it, no reason why it can't be done. Just make sure you keep up with medical care and communicate with both commands as to what your timeline/intentions are.

Rocky, how did you go about doing this?
I’d asked originally back when my package was submitted in early September but I couldn’t find much. I’d love some insight to how you went about this.
My package has been with a Rater for 60 days now so I’m not sure it would be worth it but I’d be curious to know how long it took you to set up the No-Costs.
I touched base with my PEBLO last week and they told me it could be another 1-2 months which is brutal.

I’m currently paying my mortgage for my home back in my home state(New York) that I close on in December and paying for rent down here in San Diego. We’ve got over $4,000 going out in rent/mortgage alone per month, it’s not ideal. We’ve just been waiting here week after week, month after month on this process.

My spouse and I started the closing process based on the timeline I was given by my PEBLO in late September and that was a mistake, but here we are. Closed in December and have been doubled up since then. I would appreciate any insight you have!
Thank you!

I pretty much asked my command if it would be a possibility and they were supportive of it. I can't do my job there anyways due to my condition. So I reached out to the recruiting command in my hometown and was connected with leadership there. I basically explained my situation and told them I was offering free extra help. They were onboard so my command cut orders for me to go out there. I broke my lease and moved all my stuff on my own dime. Just signed findings last week so I'm expecting to go back to my original command in 1.5 months or so to check out. I have to wait until they receive message traffic from PERS (Navy).

Keep in mind you can only do 180 days of TAD at a time. Shouldn't be an issue since you're somewhat close to being done. Just remember that even after you get findings, you'll have a couple months where you're waiting to get processed out. So I would say it is worth it. It's been somewhat of a hassle at some points liaising between the two commands, but at the end of the day it's a great benefit. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Congratulations on getting your findings back!
No kidding, that’s great. Did you just approach your LPO/LCPO? We have a revolving door of LPO’s at our command and detached LCPO so they aren’t the greatest resource. I‘m just at a LIMDU command for the same reason I can’t do my job. I’m definitely thinking of approaching them though because you‘re right there’s some processing on the backend after the findings come through.

How long did it take you from first approaching your command to when you left on your TAD Orders? How did it go approaching the command you wanted to go to? What information did you have to give back to your command once they gave you the green light at the recruiting command? Did they contact your command or did you have to relay all the information? I’ll take any information you have, I’m going to try and do this.

Thanks! And no, I'm an officer so I just asked my department head. It was pretty simple, I got an email statement from the XO of the gaining command, which said that they were cool with me going there. Showed that to my department head and I got orders written within a week or two. Since it's no cost, it's pretty much up to your command. Nothing else has to get approved. I pretty much relayed everything to be honest.

That makes sense, a few less hoops. Good information to know, thank you for sharing and answering my questions. I appreciate it!
