Hello,

I'm asking on behalf of my husband. He'll be finding out his disability % down the line and he's also in line to get his SSgt stripe soon too. Will he be able to sew on even though he is getting out medically?

I would think it depends on when his discharge is compared to his line number promotion date. If he already has a projected medical release date, then he most likely wont meet the retention requirements to put that rank on. If he's still up in the air on the fit/unfit disability rating then he could be promoted as he currently meets retention standards until found unfit at a future date.


It's a race and really depends on how well he scored for the line number and when that official rating gets handed down to him. I'm not sure if just being seen for possible disability separation automatically halts all promotions or not.

Under the high 3 retirement system it makes little difference, fiscally speaking.
