Retirement Certificate?

I am finishing up my outprocessing and I am having my retirement ceremony on the 17th of December. I am being told by my admin that because I am being medically retired that I will not receive a retirement certificate. Is this correct? I just want to make sure as the time to get things done is creeping up fast.

Thanks,

Glenn

I just had a friend get medically retired and he was informed the same thing. According to the information that he received from AFPC, an individual is not authorized a retirement certificate unless they are at 20 yrs. You should have received the same thing when AFPC sent you your retirement orders.

Hmm,

Here is a line directly from the email I received from AFPC when I got my orders:

PER AFI 36-3203, IC 10 AUG 09, MEMBERS PERMANENTLY RETIRING FOR DISABILITY
ARE ELIGIBLE FOR RETIREMENT CERTIFICATES/CONGRATULATION LETTERS REGARDLESS
OF YEARS OF SERVICE. PLEASE REFER THESE MEMBERS TO THEIR ASSIGNED UNITS FOR
COMPLETION OF THESE DOCUMENTS.

PLEASE ADVISE MEMBER OF THIS DECISION AND COMPLY WITH AFI 36-3212, TABLE
4.2, (I, M-ignore note 2, and O). SEE AFI 36-3212, CHAP 4, SEC C, FOR
FURTHER PROCESSING INSTRUCTIONS.

AFPC/DPSDD WILL UPDATE RETIREMENT IN MILPDS.

Temporary or permanent?

PDRL -yes/TDRL- no

AFI 36-3203 Service retirements, para. 6.2:
DD Form 363AF, Certificate of Retirement. The certificate is completed and signed as shown in Table 6.1. and Table 6.2. Airmen who complete 20 or more years of active military service, and Airmen who are permanently retired for disability but have not completed 20 years of active military service may be issued the certificate. Airmen who are placed on the temporary disability retired list (TDRL) are not issued the certificate unless their status changes to a permanent retirement, either for years of service or disability.
