Service Commitment & MEB

I have 2 questions. I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Hypersomnia and my PCM is beginning the process of MEB. I will be at 20 years in August 2025.

I currently have a service commitment for transfering my G.I Bill which puts me out to April 2026.
I also just got a service commitment for putting on E7 that pushes me to September 2026.

If I am MEB'd and get out at my 20, do I lose both the transfer of my G.I. Bill and my E7 pay? I cannot find information about this anywhere and can't stop thinking about it.

Service commitments are waived if found unfit and forced out. So if you are forced to medically you are good and you won't lose out when it comes to the GI bill or if promoted. Your HIGH 3 is based on your highest 36 months of pay so the longer you stay in as an E7 the higher your HIGH 3 will be. That number is important for calculating your retirement income.

Make sure to save all of your leave from now until you get out. Also, delay, delay, delay! You max out compensation if you can hit 20 years so the goal is to draw it out so that after the findings are done you have reached 20 AFS. The only scenario where you get screwed is if you don't reach 20 years. If less than 20 years its possible to be kicked out with a severance check and you don't end up with a retirement or tricare. If you don't hit 20 years and are medically retired any VA compensation you get would offset your medical retirement which for many enlisted means you only end up with VA compensation and Tricare because you lose out on your earned pension due to the VA offset.

Since you are AF there is a chance they find you fit and put you on a limited duty assignment instead. So just know that its common for you to be found fit if you have earned your 20 year retirement.

Can you provide an update on your case? Were you found fit or unfit?
