I called the SSA office today asking for the status of my claim and she told me that my application was still at the local office and it hasn't left yet. I applied about two months ago is that normal. I also asked her if it is apart of the wounded warrior program and she said I "think" it is. Anyone have any thoughts on this.

Yes. In my case, I applied for SSDI in person at the local Social Security Office (this was before you could file a "web claim"), and got receipts of initial application/claim that was date/time stamped as to who, where, and date I applied. I waited for thee or four months without hearing a word. I finally started calling and eventually tracked down my claim file. It had been transferred and was sitting in a Social Security office in someone else's file system that entire time - minus the first two weeks before she had recieved my file.

I called her up over the phone, told her that I had been able to track my file to her station as the last known place Social Security knew my file was at - right down to the specific dates my file had left place A, then place B, etc. This administrator at first said she didn't have it, so I asked her to double check.

She did. And of course, she magically "found" my file. She had not even started on it! I told her I was an expedited "Wounded Warrior" claim, and this lack of action on her part was unacceptable IAW Social Security guidelines and timelines.

Two weeks later, my Claim file left her office and went on to the next processing station/handler.

So double check if your claim is moving through the system and not sitting in someone's cubicle who could care less.

And keep a log with date, time, person, etc, too.

You should go to your SFAC at you installation and they can help you with your SSDI and find out where it is and where it is going. SFAC is apart of the WTU process.

Not sure if this helps anyone... here it is. http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/10131.html#speedup
Expediting Disablity Application--- (not too much help) Does anyone have the Social Security guidelines and timelines? I could just call but if someone knows thats kool too.

The SFAC at a WTU seems to have much better luck with getting an injured SM through the SSDI process.

If you are anywhere near a WTU location, I would strongly recommend using the SFAC department inside the area of the WTU to begin this process.

For CB-WTU SMs in the Army WTU on the West Coast, look up the SFAC phone number that is on the JBLM post at Ft. Lewis. Maybe your CB-WTU Plt.SGT may have the number, maybe they won't. But you can call your PLT SGT and ask, too.
