The overseas process

Hello everyone! First time poster. I was seen by mental health for a few years before PCSing to Korea. Well before my PCS I was diagnosed with bipolar 1 and was medicated accordingly. Regardless of these facts I was PCSd and upon arrival was informed they did not even carry the medication that I needed to take. Fast forward a couple months and I was flagged for a MEB. Below is my convoluted mess of a timeline.

First week of June: Arrive in Korea
Last week of June: Attempt medicine refill, referred to MH for prescription
Beginning of July: Start seeing psychiatrist / I am informed how I should have never PCSd and that I needed an MEB
End of July: Code 37 NARSUM initiated
August: Despite reaching out to PEBLO and attempting to get CIS, paperwork never comes through
Beginning of September: NARSUM still not complete breaking 30 day timeframe. PEBLO refuses to speak with me because he doesn't see me flagged in system. Look up CIS on epubs and speak with commander about preparing request to AMTU.
End of September: NARSUM complete
4 October: PEBLO reaches out and asks me to fill out AMTU Worksheet and that I am now officially in MEB status (despite being coded for two months) I also had the CIS on hand and sent that over immediately
10 October: AMTU Request submitted
11 October: AMTU denied and APFC justification is "Member needs to leave the USAF not just Korea"
14 October: Initial PEBLO Meeting / IDES election (He is now much more respectful)
MSC meeting could not be scheduled in timely manner due to rep being located in California.
4 November: MSC Meeting / Claims submitted Time line from PEBLO/MSC is that I will be completed and doing out processing end of January. (Fingers Crossed!)
18 November: Call PEBLO about no appointments being made yet and he claims it is the VA that is taking too long. Reach out to MSC and he responds saying the PEBLO made a paperwork error. Call PEBLO and he just tells me the issue is corrected and not to worry about it. Wont tell me what happened.
22 November: Phone call from contracting company to set up my appointments in Korea.
23 November: First email for scheduled appointment. Name is misspelled. Attempt to reach out to everyone to make sure my name is corrected and that it wont interfere with any appointments.
23 November to Present: All C&P appointment emails still coming in with the first scheduled for 30 November.

As appointments are completed and I continue the process I will update. Feel free to ask any questions as I am hoping I can hep someone out that may also be in/end up in a situation like mine.

Thanks for sharing. Yeah someone must’ve really messed up bad sending you to Korea with a BP1 diagnosis, I was medboarded out immediately. Hopefully your process goes smoothly from here on out.

Are you at Osan AB? It's been an absolute headache trying to get my MEB done correctly here, I had to do an ICE complaint to get my package sent up to AFPC (deadline was 2nd of August) and he just submitted it the 23rd of November after blowing me off for months.

How long did it take for you to get medborded? I'm getting medbord for bipolar too

From initial diagnosis to retirement date: 10 months. From official MEB start date to retirement date: 6 months. Keep in mind this was for the Air Force.

Good for you, I finished my appointment 18th of October and I'm waiting for my Narsum hopefully they will call me.

Yes I've been at Osan. It has been a pain trying to work with the MDG here since all the services I need for medication and VA appointments are all being sourced out. In progress doing C&P exams and its been difficult to work. In terms of timeliness, it seems like they get around to it when they get around to it. If you bug them at every chance you get you might make out better than you have. It doesnt help that the PEBLO takes extended periods of leave (a month+).

Hello, I was notified last week that my documents for MEB were submitted to the PEBLO here at Osan. Does it usually take a while for this individual to reach out? Would you mind giving me a contact for them so I can be proactive? I already received a job offer and I don't want to allow my fate to be left up to when they simply get around to it.

Hey! So the PEBLO is on leave for long stretches of time. Last I spoke with him he started leave before thanksgiving and isn’t supposed to be back until the new year. He said he’s checking his emails but I highly doubt timely responses. Something I’ve done is stay on top of them and make sure to show face often. I haven’t started going for jobs since the process here is still unrefined and wishy washy.

Wow, thanks for the heads up. My PCM mentioned the process here was pretty quick, which is why I started sending my resume out. But I guess that isn't the case and I'll just have to hope things work out for the best. Thanks for the response and I hope your process moves along.

A while is an understatement I'm afraid. I was put on code 37 the first of April 2022, just trying to get my VA exams scheduled was a huge pain, PEBLO said he submitted it when I called a few days after getting coded, I waited a month or so for word back.
Called him again and he said he never submitted my exam requests and he'll do it... finished my C&P exams in July with all of my DBQ's showing up in TOL the 5th of August. Called him and asked if there was anything else I needed to do, he told me nope just wait.... I ended up calling VERA to see what was taking the VA so long for my ratings in October and that's how I found out he never sent my package up to AFPC :^) then after going back and forth with him to get my local board determination for a few weeks and after submitting and ICE complaint he finally sent my package up the 18th of November. Which got sent back because he filled it out incorrectly....

Anyways he finally fixed it and resubmitted my case to AFPC the 23rd of November. And since then, I haven't heard a peep about my case. I hope for your sake it goes smoothly for you but that has been my experience at Osan. 256 days and counting, gotta love it

Hate to see it. I usually get a bad reaction from him when I bug him too much. When I first had my initial with the MSC the PEBLO said he was going to submit my forms same day. Two weeks later I had heard nothing and come to find out the PEBLO hadn't submitted anything. I bugged him and a few days later the appointments started rolling in. After all of this I feel as though there should be a support group for Osan Med Board victims haha. Hopefully you hear something soon. I know once the PEBLO comes back he will be working until March then another three month leave stretch.
