Hello,

I was hoping to reach out and get some clarity on my case. I've been on and off the site for a few months talking to a few of you.

I've heard of people getting their VA disability letters and Fit/Unfit status from their lawyers prior to their PEB results being presented by their PEBLO. So, I reached out to my lawyer earlier today to ask if they could pull anything. My lawyer informed me that they wouldn't be able to pull anything and that a rating isn't provided unless the PEB finds you unfit.

For context, my case was closed by the VA and submitted to the PEB on 16 Aug.

I've also reached out to my PEBLO in early September and they informed me i was in the final QA

I'm just confused on the entire situation. It feels like being left in the dark

Thank you for your help!

It means the VA hasn't completed your proposed ratings. There is nothing to provide at this point. Once they find you unfit and the VA finished up you will get your VA proposed ratings and shortly after that you will find out your DOD%. Most people can figure out their DOD% since the PEB must mirror the ratings. So if your mental health was rated 70% in your proposed ratings and you were in IDES referred due to mental health you can assume your ratings for DOD would be 70% too.

I see,

I guess my confusion came from seeing the case closed on 16 Aug and waiting since. I understand the process takes time. It’s understandable, just frustrating how little is communicated

I appreciate the information greatly!

Was in a similar situation as you, PEBLO wouldn't tell me and lawyer didn't have the info. Not to say all cases are the same but I was able to receive my proposed VA ratings prior to official PEB results by contacting my VA MSC. Asked for a copy of the proposal letter and that was it.

I’ll give it i a try, thank you for the information!

I understand that they’re busy people. Both the Peblo and DOD lawyer, it just gets aggravating at times. It feels like being left in the dark until the last moment sometimes

Again, i appreciate the information! I’ll give it a try if I don’t hear anything in the upcoming weeks

So I actually did the same. My VA claim was closed on OCT 2nd and my MSC gave me my proposed ratings on October 5th. Do you have any idea how long from this point that it should take for my PEBLO to actually get results for me to accept?

I’d take what I say w/ a grain of salt. There’s plenty of more experienced and knowledgeable people

To my understanding, when the PEB finds you unfit they send your case to the VA. Once the VA closes it, it’s sent back to the PEB to match the VAs disability and officially deem you unfit for duty

This is the part that takes some time. From what people are saying right now, it’s roughly 2-3 months turn around. Each case is different though

I’m also not an expert, it’s just what I’ve picked up from the forums I’ve read and participated here

I didn't word my reply very well. My MSC told my I've been found unfit by the PEB and the VA has rated me because of that and she gave me my proposed ratings Thursday. (100%VA and one of my referred conditions was 80% so medical retirement very very happy with that) My PEBLO told me friday that nothing had changed (according to him it's been on the presiding officers desk for over 2 weeks) which makes me feel like hes out of the loop or the VA updated their stuff late.
It seems that older cases were about 11-14 days from this point, but some of the newer cases where their VA ratings were done in july and august took over a month for their peblo to get them their results. Honestly, I was just hoping someone would tell my that I should have them by the end of this week, really getting tired of not being allowed to do my job, knowing I am being medically retired, and still trying to keep up with all the basic military stuff. Like my master chief told me today I was on a medical hit list for my PHA and i just looked at him like are you serious.

Your frustration is valid, it’s so frustrating that you can’t plan any aspect of your life. You’re in this weird LIMBO because you’re still a sailor, but you’re soon to not be

Different COCs treat it differently too, which makes it more annoying. The PHA thing is so weird

It seems like the the DOD is the real hold up rn. My case was closed by the VA on 16 Aug and still nothing. It seems to be the norm rn. Most people are reporting around 2-3 months, but your case sounds a little ahead of that.

Idk what the hold up is. Tbh, I don’t think anyone has the qualifications to tell you when you’ll get your findings. Truly a final hurry up and wait

I'm actually struggling. Hijacking this thread for a minute.

I've got narcolepsy and depression. both of these make it difficult to make it to work on time, I've never been more than an hour late, average of like 10 minutes at most when i am late and probably about 10 times in the last 6 months. but I had a bad week and was late 3 days in a row and my master chiefs response was "I will hold you accountable because you are still a sailor" and kinda threatening at Captains mast if i don't shape up. He knows that administrative/punitive separations take precedence over the IDES and it stresses me the hell out.

But my big issue is that last monday was me and my exwifes anniversary, I started drinking and playing video games with friends at 2pm. I stopped drinking at 10pm and I managed to go through about a half a bottle of vodka. (honestly about 1 drink an hour) I woke up on time the next morning but didn't feel great and told him i would be a little late. When I got to work I told him the truth, and he "connected the dots" now believes I'm an alcoholic and that's why I've been late and "gave me the option" of self reporting or him command reporting. I'm seriously considering telling him to fuck off and command report me. I don't have a problem, I legit made plans to get drunk and it was the first time I drank more than 1 drink in weeks. I don't even belong to this mans command permantly, I'm here TAD BECAUSE I can walk in which makes it easier on me in the mornings so i don't have to run the risk of falling asleep while driving.

Ive been reading the post for a while, my case was accepted to the PEB on 5 July and VA Aug 8th. Called legal today they tod me they a back log. Its been over 3 months now, seems some branches go faster than others. Waiting at Portsmouth VA.

It’s disappointing that the E9s response to the situation is to basically put down the sailor w/ MH issues.

It’s no shock that this is why so many personal are going to MEBS now. I’m truly sorry to hear your situation

@NOLAN1219 , you and I sound around the same boat. Just waiting.

I hope that they get to you soon @El_Cappitan , I really do

Has anyone called the PEB? I saw @guyqout3 did and they told him they sent them but never heard anything. Whenever I’ve asked they’ve said within the month but it seems that everyone’s case that went up around late June - Julyish is getting their findings.

I went and talked to the DAPA and it’s going up as a command referral so I can tell my story. I don’t want to sign anything that says I think I have a problem because I don’t believe I do.

Do you know if you’ve been found unfit? That’s the annoying part to me. I’ve been found unfit, I’ve got a VA percentage, I really don’t want to wait any longer

Yes I have been, the legal clerk or your PEBLO can usually tell you. The legal clerk told me today. She said it says in the system I was found unfit on August 30th but I got my VA proposed ratings August 8th so I’m unsure if they just take a few weeks to update their systems or not.

When did you send your ppw to the PEB?
Well after you so I’m assuming it’s going to be awhile. I think it was sent up august 21st.
My PEBLO doesn’t know anything. The MSC for the Va was the person who told me I’d been found unfit.

From my understanding we are basically at the same point which means I’m still at least a month out from PEB results?

My package was sent up July 5th. I’ve noticed it’s usually like 15 weeks from the day the package was sent. I know army and air force are way faster. I only found out because I asked but I think they usually do the fit/unfit right away when the package gets there and they take a while to update their information.
