TYPE ONE DIABETES

Hello,

My name is Joel, I am in the ANG. I am currently on title 10 orders and have been for the last 13 months. On 04/01/2016 I was admitted to the ICU for DKA and Diabetes type one, new onset. After leaving the hospital i then met with my PCM (primary care manager) and then met with a Endocrinologist. I was prescribed Levemir and Humalog. After gathering ALL of my medical documents and making sure everything was in order (timewise) I went to my medical office on base to let them know of my situation. Today on 05/14/2016 they filled out a AF FORM 469 Duty Limiting Condition Report which puts me on a mobility restriction. on 05/15/2016 i will turn another document titled Statement of Circumstances Regarding Illness or Injury Claim ( this looks to be a unit form and not a AF form). Since the start of April i have been on this website and also http://www.militarydisabilitymadeeasy.com/.

My question is that when i turned in my medical documents the medical chief stated that she dosent believe that type one is service connected. I respectful told her that from my research is seems that any condition or disease that occurs while on active duty is automatically service connected. Does anyone have a link to a official source that concurs with this statement. i am unable to find one.

I have only great things to say about the AF and ANG. But i dont plan on staying in. I just want a a fair medical separation with a service connected disability. I just want to be able to have my medications paid for by the VA since the drugs that i am taking are so expensive. that and i would love to be able to go to school after getting out and with a medical separation i can do that.

if anyone has any advise please respond here or you can write me at [email protected]

thank you
