Hello Everyone,

I'm posting with a bit of confusion. The VA closed my case on 16 Aug, but I haven't heard anything from my PEBLO about my PEB board. Is this normal? I put my timeline below incase that helps anyone understand. Thanks in advance for all your help!

Referred to MEB: 25 May
Contacted by PEBLO team/Legal brief: 5 and 7 Jun
Met w/ PEBLO: 16 Jun
C&P Exams: 21-26 Jun
Case submitted to MEB: 20 Jul (there was a delay in my NMA)

I haven't heard anything since

Yes, that is completely normal. The VA has to do their findings first, and then the PEB has to reconvene to verify their findings against the VA numbers and 38 CFR. Have patience.

Ok.

Out of curiosity, did that mean my case was submitted from the MEB to the PEB and the PEB found me unfit? After that, the VA will make its decision, send that information back to the PEB for their final approval?

Sorry, I, admittedly, don't understand the process as well as I should.

Thank you for the information!

More or less.

The whole premise of IDES is that DOD and VA are both required to follow 38 CFR, and in IDES, VA "goes first" in rating a condition. Then the service PEB rates those conditions that are unfitting for service. If everything works the way it is supposed to, the PEB percentage should match the VA percentage for those individual conditions. Of course, the VA is probably going to give additional ratings for conditions that the DOD does not consider. That's why in most cases the VA rating is higher than DOD. But the package does not just come back from VA and get rubber stamped over to you with final findings. There is still quite a bit of work to do by the service. And the more complex your package, the longer it takes.

My VA claims were closed July 14th and sent back to the PEB Aug 2nd. I am still waiting for the PEB to finalize everything and send it to my PEBLO.

Gotcha. It seems like a waiting game basically

After it’s sent to your PEBLO, is it basically a signature then submitted to PRRS for your separation orders?

Generally yes. I am doing TERA though since it is still offered in the USMC and it will allow me to collect VA and my retirement pay and retain Tricare for my family regardless of my DOD rating.
