I just learned this the other day, YES on V Codes means your conditions are combat related, should have no impact on severance pay but if you are retiring, your retirement check will not be taxed.
V1- disability disposition is based on disease or injury incurred in the line of duty in combat with an enemy and as a direct result of armed conflict or caused by an instrumentality of war.....
V3- the disability resulted from a combat related injury under the provisions of 26 USC 104 or 10 USC 10216.
Best scenario if you aren't getting medically retired is your situation. There will be no recoupment from the VA at 0% and since the unfitting condition is considered combat related your severance payment is exempt from federal taxes! So if they withhold taxes you will need to fill out some paperwork to have it refunded.

Yep! Had my meeting with the attorney today. Disability severance with no federal taxes (and I'm technically a Texas resident so no state taxes there), combat codes, no recoupment.
