New Easier to use crsc calculator

Excellent! Just took a quick look at it, seems to work pretty straightforward and accounts for YOS calculations. The key will be how it pulls the VA comp charts, one thing it doesn't appear to do is account for dependents. Will pass it along to my masses on Facebook for those looking to get a quick estimate.

Here is a link to a simpler crsc calculator that can be used without downloading anything and can also be used on mobile device: www.crsccalculator.com
Thank you so much! Do you have an excel version of it too? Would be great to have it in excel like the last one you did so that I can email it to Soldiers if needed.

no, at this time i didnt do excel, i wrote it in java script. i can make it an executable(like any program on windows. excel itself is an executable), but you could email that and it would work just like the online version if that would be helpful.

Thank you so much for creating this tool!~

Hello - Thanks for making this. I just received my approval from the DON Board (total time 16mo)…. So trying to figure the monthly pay / retroactive pay amounts out.

For clarification - what amount is the “Current DOD Pay (Total before any Offset):”

Amount we’d be receiving if still AD?

I’m not receiving any DOD pay, but am PDRL, with 70% DOD, 100% VA, and approved at 100% CRSC. TIS 11yrs 1mo.

Thank you for your help.

Did you retire active duty? If so, CRSC can't increase your gross pay. CRSC is mainly to recoup money lost due the VA offset for those who were medically retired and did not achieve 20 years of service. The loan exceptions where CRSC can help for those who have earned a regular retirement are if your total VA% is 40% or lower since you wouldn't be eligible for concurrent receipt of retirement pay + VA compensation. The 2nd except where it can help is if your CRSC pay is equal to your VA compensation. That's because CRSC could replace some of your taxable income from a regular 20 year pension leaving you with a net increase due to not paying taxes. That's pretty rare though.

I was medically retired off active duty, yes.

Just trying to figure out what that “DOD Pay” box needs to be on the estimator as my CRSC was recently approved.

VA - 100% PT
DOD - 70% PDRL
CRSC - 100%
TIS - 11yrs 1mo (active duty).

Just look at your RAS and then list the DOD% which in your case is 70%. It uses that information to calculate your HIGH 3. So just look at your Retirement Statement and put the amount of your medical retirement before the VA offset. That is your medical retirement pension you are getting now.

its the total pay dfas would give you if you didnt have va disability. i went with using this in the calculation vs high three due to accounting for inflation

This is amazing @edwards7986! Thanks for putting this together for those of us who are struggling to make heads or tails of it! Would you be willing to update it with a toggle for BRS? Also, I'm not sure if it takes residual DoD pay into account (but again I'm not sure if I understand the calculations correctly). I've also dabbled in javascript so let me know if you need or want help with it.

thankyou so much for the feed back!! i will make a check box for blended. is there any other difference besides the 2percent vs 2.5?

Looks pretty good, straightforward. Landing about what I was getting using the common excel most are using. Appreciate this. May quash the need for CRSC calculation posts.

If Major Richard Star Act is enacted pretty much do away with most of these calculations as well as Soto v US, which is at the Supreme Court and could eliminate what appears to be arbitrary 6 year limit on back pay. The VA doesn’t get to claim Barring Act to limit retroactive disability compensation, why should the services. I think the justices will rule in favor of Soto, who would only get about what 18 more months, but this could be huge for some CRSC recipients. I commend Soto and his lawyers for fighting all the way to the Supreme Court.

Taking a long time but slowly combat service members who got screwed especially in the mid 2000s are seeing justice and equality.

thankyou for the reply. with the soto case its my understanding that is a class action that only pertains to servicemembers that would be owed 10000 or less. i am glad to hear it is in supreme court now. i thought it died

the case of paige vs the us is the one for those owed greater than 10000. i guess the seperation is due to jurisdiction issues
