Navy Reservist

I received my MRR findings of NOT PHYSICALLY 4QUALIFIED-RETENTIONS NOT RECOMMENDED. I have 19 years and few months of service.

The options given were:

1. Appeal Board recommendation by PEB.
2. Transfer to retired reserve.
3.Request LOD-B for disability evaluation System (DES)
4. Discharge.

I have 30 days to make a decision and would love to hear from the experienced members what's the best'option from the above.

Thanks in advance.

If you can hold on just a little longer to reach 20 years, even better. Many service members push for a PEB while simultaneously securing enough time in service to get the 20-year retirement. Discharge is not the best option if you're so close to retirement or could qualify for medical retirement. You risk walking away without the retirement benefits you've nearly completed.

You can easily ride out the time to 20 by electing the DES option. I started mine at 19 years two months or so and just passed over 20 and still not done. This at least ensures the lock in on the grey area retirement.

PERSONALLY, I would request LOD as that way you will NOT have to wait to apply for CRSC!!!!!!

Thank you though I have been told that if I elect the LOD/DES option, I would not be able to keep drilling which means no points during this period. This means I won't have enough points to get a good year for retirement purposes.

Were you able to drill for points during this period?

I drilled like every other Sailor and got paid for it. Who is giving you this crap info??

You still keep attending training until the process is complete. If you have a good command they should work with you and since the DES was required by the Navy make that’s your duty location for the day as opposed to having you come in for a drill weekend. That way you get paid to attend your exam.

I went to my medical department and picked the option for LOD-B for disabilty benefits but they informed me that I will not be able to drill as am still classified as NPQ. Does anybody in here know what the Navy policy is while on LOD for disability evaluation?

They are absolutely WRONG!!!!! Your ONLY limitation is that you cannot travel while in the process. So wherever your TRUIC is; that is now your drill site until your case is finalized. RESPERMAN 6000-010

But you gave up drilling when that Pg13 is in violation of the resperman.
Medical insisted that I cannot drill while in LOD status . Checked with manpower and they didnt help either. My 30 days to make an election of what I wanted was coming up.so I had no option. I will take the resperman to them and see what they say.

This is what my NPQ-RNR letter said from PERS, but the LOD-B for DES pg 13 I signed was different.
