100% P and T about to retire, should I ask for MEB

I am currently in the National Guard and came off a 5 year AGR tour on Dec 31, 2023. I have around 12 years total federal service and 28 good years...5300 points. I got 70% PTSD (combat) and have a retirement scheduled for 31 July. Am I screwing myself by retiring and not trying for a MED board? The guard does not give much info on the subject.

if you are eligible for your NG retirement then you will qualify for CRDP meaning all of your longevity earned pension + all of your VA compensation. You have little to gain for CRSC or MEB. The only way a MEB would net you more is if your were rated high and that amount from a chapter 61 pension was higher than the combination of your earned guard pension + VA disability.

Try for an MEB? The Guard must do things differently from the active side, whereas one does not try or has a choice. Most ridiculous thing I’ve heard.

Sorry Crusty, I should have explained better. I have been on two years of exemptions from PT and therefore would be referred to AMRO board and then MEB, I put in my retirement instead. I was just asking the question if I should choose to go through the MEB process instead ....I know its crazy to ask something like that in a PEB Forum. Thanks for your insightful reply.

Understood. If it’s been two years of exemptions from PT then it’s seems like a failure on your medical team to submit the necessary paperwork and initiate the MEB. Unless it’s different in the guard. In the situation you described it still is not your choice, and a failure on the part of your MEDOPS section. If your retirement has been submitted prior to an MEB being initiated it will be more than likely very difficult to have those orders revoked. Revocation of orders requires an O-6 approval as well as a legitimate reason for such a request. Asking to be put into IDES in lieu of retirement may be a difficult task. I wish you luck battle buddy!

Pulling your retirement back in the Guard is super easy as long as it is greater than 31 days out. You are right though, it is not my choice but our medical team is meeting this drill weekend to discuss as they have not been doing the initiations per guidance. In my case it is better to just go into gray area retirement. Thanks and I wish you luck as well.
