Hi long time lurker first time poster. I received my NARSUM this week and according to the Army they are Med boarding me for PTSD. In the VA C&P Exam they are saying I have MDD because there is no evidence of the Traumatic Event ( my PTSD is from abuse I received from my husband who was civilian). My question is how will this affect my ratings and my VA benefits down the road? I filed a report with FAP and CID but the VA is still saying it can't be proved I experienced an event. Could someone please give me some guidance?

The effect on your rating from the V is NONE. For the most part, all mental health diagnoses are rated the same. A correct diagnosis is essential to good treatment, it is irrelevant for compensation. The proper understanding of your social, academic, relational and occupation functioning is what determines compensation.

Hello. I Have my first PTSD examination June 28 at 1pm with a va phychologist. I was also informed that i have 3pm ptsd computer test. Does anyone have any information about the computer exam or ptsd exams in general? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your response. I appreciate as I am very stressed out about the actual diagnoses. In order for me to receive correct treatment it needs to be PTSD ...how can I get that changed? Do I request an IMR?

@chaplaincharlie stated the rating situation correctly.

Not sure that the issues are correctly linked or correlated here- I think you are asking about getting your MEB/PEB condition changed as to the diagnosis. As chaplaincharlie explained (especially, given that your condition does not appear to be combat related) the rating issue does not change based on the diagnosis.

So, it seems to me that you are disagreeing with your providers and think you are not getting proper treatment based on a misdiagnosis. This is not something that would normally be addressed via the MEB/PEB/IDES process. Maybe ask for a second opinion? Not sure what specific treatments you think are not being provided or that you would get with a different diagnosis.

Do I request an IMR?
IMR would be a route for challenging the results of the MEB and NARSUM. However, again, not sure of your goal here. If it is seeking some different outcome or benefit, I am not sure what an IMR would do for you or how it would benefit you.

I think I would step back and figure out what you want and what your goals are. I am not very clear on that. Maybe you can provide further information or input. Hope all goes well for you.

Try not to worry about what the VA C&P examiner did/said.

When you start with a treating provider, he/she will start by making an assessment. That assessment will result in a diagnosis.

Thank you everyone for your responses. My main concern was just treatment down the road. I just didn't want a doctor treating me for depression instead of PTSD...and I guess the diagnoses itself mad me angry...it's like they are saying to me "pics or it didn't happen" and that's a kick in the face to me, especially when they state I have all the symptoms but no proof so,it's not PTSD. ...I'm babbling its just frustrating when so many people have not helped me with any of this just because I was married to my abuser...I've gotten screwed by every army agency that's supposed to help in these situations. I'm just paranoid now I will get screwed again.
