Hello everyone. I was recently permanently medically retired (100% DoD, 100% VA P&T) at about 16 years active duty service (plus 2 reserve) and am apparently too dumb to fully understand how CRSC works. I’m about to apply so will find out soon enough, but hoping someone can walk the dog on this for me. Basically, I’m trying to figure out what my max CRSC could theoretically be considering the longevity pay cap:

My high 3 base pay = $9,439.20

Medical retirement pay at 75% = $7,079.40

100% VA pay (wife and 4 kids) = $4,519.77

Longevity pay at 40% = $3,775.68

Basically, I’m just curious what the max CRSC amount could possibly be considering my above numbers.

Any help/info is greatly appreciated!

Right off the top you're looking at a residual of $2,559.63, subtract that from your longevity pay (CRSC cannot ever exceed your longevity cap), you're talking about approx $1,215.45 from CRSC. I know, I probably made it even worse to understand. Here's the why part of it all: any DOD payment above your VA compensation (i.e., your residual) counts against you when it comes to CRSC. For example, I'll use myself. O-6, DOD rated at 70%, my pay was $7,575 per month, my VA compensation was $3,850/mo leaving me with a residual of $3,725/mo. I was rated at 10% CRSC which is $175/mo, but, due to my high residual, I could only get $125/mo for CRSC. (VA comp 3,850 - residual of 3,725 = $125 max for CRSC), no matter what my CRSC rating would be, I would not exceed $125/mo. It sucks, I know, but that's the long end of it. I hope it helps.

Remember: this is only a guestimate! I do not work for DFAS nor want to lol

Sir, that's exactly the info I was looking for! Much appreciated!

Don’t fall asleep on crsc calculator | crsc

This was within a dollar for mine, when I talked to DFAS and got my exact payout while waiting for it, they were impressed at how accurate and said they get calls all the time and usually not that close.
