MEDBOARD

I have been in the Navy exactly 19 years. Towards the end of my shore duty in 2022, l picked orders to a ship. Unfortunately my sea duty screening was denied because of ICD-Code F43.20 adjustment disorder missed with anxiety and depressed mood. I was refered to LIMDU for 3 months. Upon completion my Naval mental health provider returned me to unrestricted duty on 09/07/2022. I received another order to the ship to report on Dec 2022. That 2nd order was also cancelled. And l was refered to my PCM to put me on LIMDU again. She review my record and said l look great and she will not initiate LIMDU. I agree with her because l was stable and ready to go back to the ship. Couple of months passed and the Navy lost track of me until after 9 months l received the 3rd order and again got denied because of another code F13.20 due to the fact that l was taking trazodone as needed for my mental health and it can give me dizziness so l was refered to MEDBOARD. The flip side of the story is that, the medication does not give me dizziness as side effect, l only experience constipation so l don't understand how the medication will stop me from doing my job. Additionally, my Naval mental health doctor prescribe that specific medication to enable me go back to the ship and she noted in my records that l am able to manage my symptoms and nothing can impact my function occupationally and socially. The F13.20 code means sedative, hypnotic, and anxiolytic uncomplicated. I feel this code is over exaggerated. Honestly and at this moment l am 100 percent fit for duty in my occupation both shore and sea duty.
I am happy l found this forum may be l will get some solace because ever since l received the news for MEDBOARD, l can barely sleep or eat well, the slightest taught of the whole orders ordeal gets my heart racing, l am worried and confused.
1-Could this board ruin my 19 years of service, if no how can l reverse it and retire at 20 years with full benefits.
2-Can my PCM reverse this board into LIMDU?c
3-Can l submit my retirement during LIMDU?
4-Can they consider my years of service and make me retire?
5-How many LIMDU is required before medboard. I did only one. I will appreciate any response. Thanks.

4-Can l fight to stay at shore if they denied me sea?

Apply for retirement and you should be good to go. See this quote below:

e. Request for Separation, Retirement, or Transfer to Fleet Reserve. LIMDU will not prohibit personnel from requesting separation, retirement, or transfer to the Fleet Reserve. (1) LIMDU will not delay personnel with an approved separation, retirement, or request for Fleet Reserve transfer.Personnel pending separation or retirement will not be delayed unless approved by NAVPERSCOM Officer Performance and Separations Branch (PERS-834) (for all legal or performance flagged officer records); Officer Retirements Branch (PERS-835)(for officer statutory retirements); Distribution Policy and Procedures Branch (PERS-451) (for officer separations) or Bureau of Naval Personnel (BUPERS) Enlisted Military Community Management Division (BUPERS-32) (for enlisted personnel), orother codes as appropriate. Approval may be considered if theService member is either hospitalized or accepted to the DES fordisability processing prior to the release or retirement dateper reference (b) and MILPERSMAN 1830-030.

Even if they put you in IDES you could definitely delay long enough to hit 20 years. Though like I said at the beginning I would apply for retirement so that you will be done in a year. Also, an approved retirement is grounds to be found fit by the PEB.

Thank you so much. I have another question. Can l put in my retirement during the MEDBOARD process because l am not on LIMDU am going to see my PCM to start the MEDBOARD process. The instructions specify LIMDU only. Thanks.

Typically once in the process you can't submit a retirement packet. That's why I said to apply for retirement before that happens.

@S@hdat2

Send me a message, I’m in the exact same boat as you’re in. I’m over 19 years in the Navy. Just started my MEDBOARD and am actually in VA C&P exam part right now. I can help answer some of your questions and let you know how my process has been.

@Provis is absolutely correct and is always spot on with his information. I have gone to him for inputs as well.

Being referred to a MEDBOARD doesn’t always mean your MEDBOARD is gonna happen. If your PCM is referring you to a MEDBOARD, that means he/she is writing your narrative to the first MEB Doc, he or she has to agree or disagree and then the Convening Authority has to say yes.

In my scenario, I was referred to a MEDBOARD at the end of September, like the very last day. My actual MEDBOARD wasn’t APPROVED meaning I got the call from the my PEBLO until November 15th!!! So yeah man it took a month and some change.

Everyone’s scenario is different! This forum has a bunch of great information and resources. Feel free to hit me up if you would like to talk.

All the best

My other question is, if a Sailor is medically retired, do they receive retirement monthly payment for their 19 years of service. Thanks.

You should not be thinking 19 yrs of service. start thinking 20 yrs of service. submit a coad if you are in the meb. if not, drop your retirement packet.

@GhostFace is right. You don’t get anything for your 19 years because it is waived dollar for dollar in order to receive VA compensation. The only way to restore your DoD pension pay for your 19 years of service is if you apply for CRSC after retirement. Even with CRSC it isn’t guaranteed that you will restore 100% of your waived retirement pay for your 19 years. Now, if you get to 20 years you will automatically qualify for CRDP and receive both VA compensation and your DoD longevity pension. CRSC and CRDP are capped at your longevity portion of your DoD retirement pension.
