Medical Care On Terminal Leave

Hello everyone

I got my TDRL orders a little bit ago and am on terminal leave. I was getting my neck treated while I was getting out but no Mri. I am on terminal and can’t get seen by the VA till I’m officially out and my neck has gotten worst. I wanna get seen but I don’t wanna get recalled because I might need a surgery. What’s my best course of action. Should I wait or is there anyway I can get seen without getting recalled from terminal and having to stay active duty. Any advice is appreciated thanks

Why not request your PCM for a referral off post since you are on terminal leave? Since you are still active you are under Tricare Prime so you either need to see a doctor on a military base or get referred to one off base. I wouldn't worry about being recalled. You are already on the retirement list albeit the temporary one.

Receiving care while on terminal leave is the best way to look out for your health while you are still an active duty member. It also helps with documentation. Schedule appointments with your PCM (as needed basis) and look out for your health first. Take care.

But I’m far away from my pcm which is at my last command. I am back home. I know there is something call a tricare nurse advice line for referrals to Ed’s and what not

Gotcha. If I am reading this correct, you are saying that you went back to your home of record once you went on terminal? If that’s the case… you can still use any nearby Civilian ER/Urgent Care Facility and the Tricare Nurse Advice line but I’m sure (from my experience with these options) that they will direct you to consult with your Primary Care Manager for referrals and follow up…. You can possibly try the ER at your closest nearby military installation and they’ll probably provide you with an referral (it depends) but I’m not 100% on that either… the main take a way is that you have options to be seen if the pain becomes unbearable..

Ok thanks I just want to not get recalled cause I was just on a med board for a year and don’t want to spend another day back there

Ask your PCM for a referral and press on. Never delay needed care.
