Many ask what needs to be done to get a medical retirement when they were medically separated in the past. Those looking at fixing an injustice need to known the proper avenues to achieve this and to evaluate if they have a case that is likely to win. The burden of proof for the ABMCR is on the Soldier to show that at the time of separation there was clear evidence that a condition was not added or rated properly at the time of separation. My aunt retired from Murie ridge in Elyria, Lorain County, Ohio as it became apparent to us she just needed to retire. She's got autism (MR low septum), seizures, and other health conditions. So is there a paid caretakers program for caretakers of both elderly & mentally disabled persons? If so how do I apply as her caretaker?

As of October 1, 2022, this program is now open to family caregivers of eligible Veterans of all eras. This includes eligible Veterans who served after May 7, 1975, and before September 11, 2001.
