Moving family to home of record?

The MEB process I am just beginning is likely to drag on into the winter of next year, which produces issues with the kids having to move during he school year and having to move across the country in the winter.
I am considering moving them over the summer to overcome those issues. Here comes the question:
If I keep receipts and weight slips, will the AF let me apply those to my official move when I get retired?
 
That will be a good question for your local JPPSO and finance office.

Ask them if you are authorize Advance travel pay for Personally Procured Moves (PPM) / Do It Yourself Moves (DITY).

Also, you can start reading up on some of the Joint Federal Travel regulations for anything that pertains to reimbursement. In the event they give you the run around.

In addition, I don't know the severity of your condition, but something else to factor in just in case: Remember, for a Soldier to be medically retired is not your decision but the PEB's. In case they may not retire you but return to duty.

The answer (which I don't know off the top of my head; but my instinct says no) will be found in the JFTR and what your orders state. http://www.defensetravel.dod.mil/site/travelreg.cfm
(I doubt your orders will provide for an early move...I am also thinking that part of the issue/question resolves around what you mean by "move;" are you talking transportation costs for your dependent(s); Household goods?). You can always ask for something. In your case, it would seem to me to be an amendment to your separation/retirement orders. But, that, also, might be the wrong the way to approach the issue. Maybe you are looking for a separate move of you dependents..

Bottom line, my instinct is that you cannot get the government to pay for what you are suggesting. However, I don't have a strong feeling about this and you may well be able to accomplish what you are hoping for paid by the government. I think your first stop, as suggested above, is with your Travel office.
 
Thanks guys! I know that I need to go by the travel office. I will do that!
My intent is to pay for the move myself and look for reimbursement after I get orders. It would basically be a full DITY move and I would just follow on when the process finished.
I am not looking for any kind of advance pay or early orders...
There is very little chance of getting returned to duty and even if they did, I'm over 20 so I will retire.
My hope was that someone on here had done something similar so that they could share their experiences.
 
I was in the same position and asked the same questions. The bottom line is the military won't pay for anything until you have separation orders. I paid out of pocket to move them home. The good news is I still have 1 government funded move I can use for up to 5 years after I got out.

I take it that they would not even look at the receipts you accumulated prior to the date of the orders?

No, they did not care about anything that occurred prior to the date the orders were cut. The JFTR doesn't say a lot about the topic and, in my opinion, it wasn't a battle worth fighting. You should read the relevant portions of the JFTR and see what you think.

There may be some tax benefits to your receipts depending on how you interpret the tax rules.

Hi Chris. I'm also stationed at Patrick and am beginning the MEB process myself. I suspect the best office to answer this question is the TMO or Finance. I'd start with TMO (located next to barber shop in small shoppette near the Space Coast Credit Union. You probably know where finance is, but if not, it's first floor of bldg 425 on the southwest corner. BTW, I'm one of the Chaplains so if I can help you with anything in the "Chaplain" department, feel free to call on me 4-9538.
