Good Morning, My question is around the timeline for when I and who will pay me. I just received my DD214 yesterday and will be on terminal leave until the 23rd of October, October 24th will be my first day as a veteran. I was rated DOD and VA 100% and by my calculations my DOD payment is higher than my VA Payment (DOD is around 4.9K and VA is 4.4k). When will I get my first paycheck and I'm assuming I will get that first paycheck from the DOD until my VA kicks in. Thanks in advance.

If you didn't also earn a 20 year retirement I suggest you start looking into CRSC to see if you have any conditions that qualify. You won't be able to apply until you receive your VA award letter. CRSC allows you to claw back some of that VA offset if the combination of your earned longevity pension + VA compensation is greater than your compensation from your chapter 61 retirement + VA compensation.
You might get a partial DOD payment first as you should get a prorated amount for the time the VA doesn't cover. That would be from October 24-31. That could come within 4 weeks of getting out. Your first full month check will be December 1st. That should be your VA compensation and any leftover amount after VA offset from DFAS. If the VA takes too long it could delay a check for another month but if that happens you will be paid retroactively.
Also, forgot to say this but save your money in the meantime. My wife and I saved 2 months worth of expenses and we are glad we did because it did take a while for all of our pay to kick in!

As I said before plan on 1st full paycheck December 1st.
