Forgive me if this is the wrong forum for this:
Back Story:
I was raised by my paternal grandmother. While in high school, she got terribly sick to where she could live alone but she didn't want to leave her house so I moved in with her and took care of her. I was 16-17 years old. During my senior year of high school, I was unable to continue to caring for her so she finally left her home and moved in with her daughter (My Aunt). Just before my high school graduation, I joined the US Army Reserves. Fast forward to September 11th when they hit the trade centers, I was called to active duty and deployed to the Middle East. While I was there in the Middle East, my grandmother died. My mom sent a red cross message to me informing me that my grandmother has passed away. My commander told me this information. I asked to return home to attend the funeral and I was denied my request and sent back to the barracks with absolutely no opportunity to see a chaplain nor a counselor of any kind. Its important to note that at this time, I was deployed to Qatar. So many people were allowed to go home and attended graduations, wedding, funerals, and other ceremonies and events.
I've struggled all of these years mentally because I wasn't able to properly pay my last respects to the grandmother that raised me, too care of me, and ultimately who I also was able to take care of. My question is am I able to file PTSD because of this and if so what paperwork would I have to submit in order to accomplish this? Thanks in advance and thank you all for your service!
