So my question is after all is said and done and I get orders, how does the process work with leave? I have 40 days accrued but I’m trying to sell a good amount back. I guess my question is do I have to take leave and if I do how much would you guys recommend I take?

From my experience, the most you can sell is 60 days. You don't have to take terminal leave, but if you dont sell it the you lose it. But if you decide to sell it, then you will lose BAH, BAS, and special allowance if that applies to you.

Do you also receive BAH for the address to where you're taking terminal leave?

The maximum leave one can "sell" during their career is 60. It changed around 1974. I used to sell mine every time I reenlisted. Unused leave is paid at the base pay amount.

You are authorized 1/30 of your basic pay for each day of leave you sell back.

Taxes are withheld from your final payment at the rate of 25% for federal tax and varying amounts for state tax.

In my opinion: No

The policy decision to use duty location as a basis for BAH is based on the desire to compensate members for the typical housing cost near the member's duty location. Once the duty station is known, the BAH compensation is fixed, regardless of where the member lives. One's leave address is not their duty station.
