Today I received my Retirement Orders from Dept of the ARmy Physical Disability Agency

.Your orginial separation order have been revoked and an order permanently retiring you at 60 percent has been published and made retroactice back to the day you separated with disability severance (which was MAY 2000). A DD Form 214 and DD Form 215 are enclosed.

Contact DFAS will provide permanant retired pay and allowances effective the date of your original disability separation and account for (recoup) any serverance pay previously paid. To establish and activate your retired pay account you must first complete a DD form 2656.

You should immediatley contact the nearest installation RSO (Fort Meade, MD) for assistance iwth completing the DD Form 2656 to activate your retired pay account. It is importnat that you return a completed copy of this form to DFAS.

You and your authorized family memebers are entitled to a Retiree or Dependent United States Uniformed Services Identification and Privilege Card.

UPDATE 14AUG2013

8AUG13 So, I went to the RSO at Fort Meade to fill out the retirement pay account activation form. (I forget what its called). Anyway I signed it and the RSO sent it off to DFAS. I asked the RSO about my flag and she walked down to their supply room and gave me a big FEDEX box. Inside the box was this nice box with Army emblems all over and inside the box was a nicely folder American Flag, Retirement sticker, retirement lapel pin and some DVD (have not watched it yet)

Went upstairs to Transition tOffice to inquire about my retirement ceremony (2000) they informed me that I would have to go back to my unit and have them do it. Now, how the heck can I go back to my unit after 13 years. Those people don;t know me from a hole in the wall. Anyway, I said forget it and told them I want my Retirement Certificate. They could not print me one with President Bush name (he was president back then) but they printed the current Presidents signature block which was cool.

ID CARD SECTION and DEERS:
Next, went back downstairs to ID card section. (sequestration has them working limited hours ...smh) sat for 3 hours but was excited to be put in DEERS and retired and get my blue ID Card right. Wrong, my status in DEERS is DAV (disabled veteran). Back in 2007 the VA rated me 100% total and permenant which I took full advantage of so I went to the ID card section back in 2007 and was issued a brown ID card which allowed me commissary and PX privies.

The ID Card Clerk informed me that they would have to send my DD 215, 214 and orders to the DEERS folks somewhere in Kentucky I think to have them update the system to retired because they were not able to change the DAV status information in DEERS.

13AUG13- Received phone call from Ft Meade ID Card Section, my status was changed to retired, please make an appointment to come back to get your retired ID card....YEAHHHHHHHHH.

Congrats on establishing your retirement. I was just sent an email from my attorney with an attachment from the Department of the Army (BCMR) retiring me. At this point that is all that I have. In your opinion, do you think that I will receive a larger envelope with orders, DD214, and DD215? I called the RSO here in Colorado and they informed me to come in with dependent documentation and letter from the Army (BCMR) in order to do what you have done and continue to do. Any advice would be appreciated.

As you know, I went through the PDBR process which took from start to finish 14 months. I received my letter from the Sec of the Army informing me that I was approved for 60% medical retirement back in June 2013. I received my retirement orders, DD 214, DD215, orginal orders dated May 2000 (these were revoked) and a instruction letter informing me what steps to take in 1 large brown envelope on 6 Aug 2013. I contacted the RSO here at Fort Meade set up an appointment withthe RSO to fill out the DFAS retirement pay form (i forget the form number). Turns out when I walked in her office she was the person that cut my orders. (she spelled my name wrong too). Anyway, she went on to tell me that she receive notification from the Sec of the Army Physical Disablily Branch electronically notifying her my status change and she inturn cut the orders herself.

So, long story short, you should get a brown envelop with the information I listed approve. The orders and DD 215 will come from the RSO either near your last duty station or closest to your current location. Don;t quote me on that but because I was seperated here at Fort Meade and I still live near Fort Meade is the reason I was issued orders from the RSO at Fort Meade.

Thank you for the information. My wife and I went to Fort Carson to fill out the SBP paperwork today with the letter that I had received. The RSO there was very helpful with the information needed for me proceed in this case. I would like to thank all the People on this board, especially Jason, Mike, and Ed. At times I was very frustrated with the whole injustice that have befallen so many but knew in my heart not to quit or let others quit.

If there is anyone who needs any kind of assistance and I am able to provide that assistance, please do not hesitate to ask. My case is very similar to many others (back issues, L4,L5/S1 with radiculopathy) and some other issues. I was able to win with the help of NVLSP and the information found on this forum through the ABCMR. Again, thank you to so many of you, good luck, and never quit!

Exactly; never ever default acceptance to potential injustice while championing for well-earned and well-deserve military disability compensation to include future military healthcare benefits after separation/retirement!

UPDATE

Received Retired Blue ID Card yesterday....YEAHHHHHHHHHHH

-Decided to enroll myself in TRICARE but will be using the John Hopkins Health Care System. Not because I really need it because I use the VA Health Care System which has been wonderful to me since 2000. I go to the Baltimore VA Hospital and the new Satellite Clinic on Fort Meade. I guess I just wanted the option if I need to go to the emergency room or need a same day appointment at the womens clinic. If I don't like TRICARE or view the fees to be excessive than I will opt out next year.

- My son who is 13 still falls under his dad (who is a retired Warrant Officer (my ex husband) will continue to receive his health care through the Military Health Care Facility at Fort Meade.

-Still waiting on DFAS to establish my account but was told by the RSO at Fort Meade that they have 30 days to establish account.

-Does anyone know how I can get back into the AKO system?

Good deal! The John Hopkins Health Care System (JHHCS) is truly awesome in my opinion! My family experienced an abundance of specialty appointments via TRICARE Prime into the JHHCS without any issues. By the way, I was born at the former JH Hospital many many many years ago!

Called AKO help desk this morning. There will be no problem activatating my account. Because its been so long ago (May 2000) I don't have security questions set up. She asked me from my Basic Active Service Date which I did not know the correct date. I will need to call back with my DD 214 in hand. Anyway she informed me that I would not have to fax any order or anything just provide that information and I will be good to go.

Most definitely, I am very familiar with the Baltimore/Washington area. Upon our PCS from Fort Bragg, NC to Maryland a couple of years ago, we returned after a 23-year absence; so much has changed! Are you and family eventually going back to Detroit, MI to settle?

UPDATE 6 SEPT 13

AKO account re-established. Took a couple of calls to HRC because the AKO help desk kept asking me about security questions that were clearly not setup on my account. They also kept asking me for my PEBD date?. Too many questions so the AKO dude suggested that I call HRC to get my PEBD date and inform them that my rank was wrong in their systems to include my last name...(SMH not how the hell can AKO database not match up with HRC database).

TRICARE: Enrolled in the Retired Dental Plan which will cost $30 dollars a month. Although, I'm 100% and receive free dental from the VA with no problems. But, the students from the University of Maryland (GOD BLESS THEM) rotate out every year. I like to deal with the same dentist all the time. I will wait to see how it turns out.

DFAS: Contacted DFAS today to find out if my retirement account was setup yet. The nice lady on the phone informed me that they received my paperwork on 19Aug13 and will take 30 to 60 days.
