Reserve Med Board

Goodevening,

I entered the Army Reserves after 15 years of service and was awaiting the doctors to initiate a MedBoard or so I was told. I had everything done I was asked by the Primary Care on post and even had the off post Pain Management speaking to him about how my condition would not get any better. That being said I left Active Duty with the option to go Indef or to ETS, I chose to ETS but eventually joined the Reserves. I am still met with many challenges although I tried to hang in there as long as I could, I now have 1.5 years of Reserve time and am seeking any info on how I can A) Ask my unknown PA for a P2 profile and B) Possibly have them initiate a Med Board when I'm only part time? Just to fill you in I'm part of a small detachment where the major command resides at a large AD base and I'm at a small drill site so I never see the PA. I really need to figure something out because my conditon is not improving and I have 1.5 more years left on current contract. Any help is much appreciated!

The way to get that started is by filling out a profile packet which can be signed by your personal doc. What moves the needle is your health condition (s) causing you to not be able to do any portion of your Reserve MOS.

Hey thanks for that feedback, I was unaware of such a thing as a profile packet, but I will look into it. Is that something I can obtain through local channels or an online forum?

My wife asked her Reserve unit for one. Then she filled out most of it and her personal doctor signed it. Then the packet is sent up to the medical channels which typically aren't local to your reserve unit. From there they give you profile. If there is a P3 profile issued your commander is told to create a memo to send you to a fit for duty exam. If the doctor at the fit for duty exam thinks you may be unfit for duty they will refer you to IDES. If you don't have a LOD you will probably be referred to a non duty related IDES meaning no severance or medical retirement. Make sure you have 15 good years before starting this process. If found unfit they will issue you a 15 year letter which is the same as a 20 year letter except you won't qualify for CRDP when you reach the age to apply and receive your reserve retirement. From the time you are out until you reach the age to apply for your reserve retirement you will be a gray area retiree.

I will investigate the concept of a profile packet; I appreciate the feedback. Am I able to find that through more conventional means, such as a local station or an internet forum?
