Separation Pay Question

I completed my IDES separation and was told that I would receive my severance pay, (20% DOD 90% VA rated), in 5-10 business days from my last day of terminal leave. I received my final pay check but not my severance. I was wondering if anyone else had two separate payments one for final pay and one for severance? I have not been able to get ahold of any one at FT Carson finance separation and DFAS said I would need to go through them to get any information.

My Timeline:
Referred to MEB - August 2021
Accepted my MEB- September 2021
QTC Exams - September 2021
Ratings Received- Jan 2022
Terminal Leave Jan 2022 - Feb 2022

Sorry just scrolling through the forums. But quick question! Your finally paycheck was paid normally or did it take a few day/weeks to receive? And how long after did you receive your severance??

Sure! My last day in the Army was 2/23/22 I got my last normal paycheck 2/15/22 and then my final paycheck 3/8/22 it was pay for all 23 days of February I was still active duty. I received the taxed portion of my severance 3/24/22 and then submitted the documents saying it should be tax free. I got the portion they taxed back 4-27-22 and my VA pay started 5-19-22

So even though your separation pay wasn’t supposed to be taxed they still did it and you had to file for the untaxed portion?

Yes. They tax it regardless and then you have to submit documentation showing you have a VA rating for the same injury they said you were no longer fit for duty over. You submit it all through the MYPay website and it’s fairly easy. I want to say that it was just submitting a copy of my DD 214 and a copy of my VA rating. I attached a picture of the email they send me for what to submit.

Awesome. Thanks for the info. Did you submit that through mypay the second you had your DD214 or do you have to wait till after you actually receive the severance pay?

I waited until I received the email, as I wasn’t sure what to turn in. But I’m sure if you submitted right away you would probably just have it wait until they’ve issued severance pay.
