Should I attempt for a medical retirement or just ETS?

I’m currently in the Army National Guard and recently received 100% P&T from my latest combat deployment.

I have about 12 years left to hit 20 and am not interested in trying to keep extending.

I have multiple diagnoses that are tied back to my deployment while on active duty (TBI, PTSD, sleep apnea, migraines, some musculoskeletal issues). I do not have any LODs from the guard directly, everything I have is recorded through my active duty time/PHAs.

Would attempting to achieve a medical retirement make sense in my situation? I have about a year left on my current contract. If so, how would I even go about initiating this?

Thank you for your help in this matter.

Maybe some Army cats can chip in. I started my IDES process by just going to medical, over and over. Docs kept telling me I was fine until they actually looked at my scans and realized my back was fucked. After about 6ish months on LIMDU they started me on a medboard. As for if it's worth it? That's completely up to you, but it seems like you already have a choice in mind.

I appreciate the response. It seems worth it, I’m just worried about the whole stigma around it and whether or not the guard is going to try and screw me over.

Yes it’s worth it provided you realize the meboard process can take a few years for reservists,
